It is a stimulation for more production and an un veiling of talent, open to rejection or enjoyment. Currently there are four par ticular outlets for creative litera ture open to Salem students. The first is, of course. Incunabula, whose staff is planning an ex panded issue that will only earn that adjective with your contribu tions. Incunabula’s deadline for poetry, art, literary, and photo graphic entries is April 3. The second possibility is a poetry contest sponsored by the National Poetry Press, 3210 Selby Avenue, Los Angeles, California, (zip 90034) They want entries of any style or length (shorter poems preferred) on separate sheets of paper, by April 10. Each sheet must include name, home address, and college ad dress of the entrant. The winners will be included in an anthology of poetry by college students to be published by the National Poetry Press. Another outlet, and one that supports a Salem tradition, is the Rondthaler Award competition, sponsored each spring for Salem students. As has been mentioned before in the Salemite, this is not only a literature competition, but a music and art competition as well. These entries are due April 5. If honors are appealing, but second to money, the next contest might be of some interest. This End Up, a literary magazine from Jacksonville, N.C. is spon soring a short fiction competiti- tion. Entries should be mailed to Stephen E. Smith, This End Up, Coastal Carolina Community Col lege, 222 Georgetown Road, Jacksonville, N. C. (zip 28540) by April 15. The first prize is $100, second is $50. All of these competitions set deadlines that are after Salem’s spring break. This extra time offers an excellent opportunity to anyone interested in pulling to gether her work and entering it. There is no reason why the same piece cannot be submitted to sev eral of these areas, especially where Incunabula and the Rond thaler Awards are concerned. It is time to start making a difference with yourself by creat ing and putting forth instead of always taking in and being touched, by giving back and touching someone else. —Mandy Lyerly (ras Siphoned From School Vehicl Salem College has experieneed something of a fuel shortage. Last Tuesday, maintenance men discovered that over the weekend gasoline had been syphoned from school vehicles. Although not sure how much gas was stolen, maitenance man Elwood Grander says some of the vehicles were so dry they wouldn’t start. Gas was taken from the VW buses, the Buick and several trucks. A license plate was stolen from a pick-up as well. es The vehicles are always parked behind the maintenence building -a location out of the wav and rarely checked by Security Guards. To prevent a reoccur rence of this crime all the gasoline tanks have now been equipped with anti-syphon springs. With no clues to the identity of the perpetrators, the incident was not reported to police. Henry Starbuck of maintenance quipped, “Too bad we didn’t dust for fingerprints.” MONTAILDO'S the beautiful clothes place 309-311 West Fourth Street Winston-Salem, North Carolin Salem Book Stors "...
