April Arts If you missed April Arts last Thursday we had an excellent speaker, Mauryne Dugger from the Needle Arts Shop on Hawthorne Road. She gave a short talk and brought many examples of cross- stitch from a gorgeous afghan to Christmas presents and ornaments. At the end she conducted a workshop with all the materials provided for us to practice cross-stitch and learn new techniaues. She will return Thurs. Nov. 30 at 5:15 in the Alumnae House to conduct a workshop on needlepoint - specifically how to needlepoint plaids. All the materials will be provided. Please come if you are interested or just want to watch. Everyone is welcome. On November 20, the Back Door is sponsoring the second annual Salem Turkey Bowl. When the feathers settle on the lower hockey field the national media will clamor to see whether the Pilgrims (freshmen and juniors) or the Indians (sophomores and seniors) have won the Turkey of all Bowls. Class presidents will be arranging for team players to sign-up for the game. The game starts Monday at 4:00. The Turkey Queen will be selected by the Back Door Committee from that over-qualified class- the seniors. 1HA1VKS Back Door Committee: Kathy Coble Ruthie Chambers Melinda Hutchinson Blair McNinch Elizabeth Toney - Chairman NeedleArts 1622 S. Unfortunately, a lot of books and research materials have been “misplaced” from their proper locations. It has been discovered that a variety of material is not being checked out from or returned to the library. Since the Library is open to the entire Salem Community and many people study there, the blame for this situation can not be solely placed on the Salem students. For Salemites taking material illegally, however, constitutes an Honor offense. Apioposal has been made to install an electronic detector on the front stairs of the library to stop any further instances of this ab sentmindedness or thievery. The detector will pay for itself in two years time, since close to four thousand dollars in books and research material disappear from the library per year. Along with the detector must come in creased student vigilence and concern. ^ TOG Happy Hour Every Night i Open Seven Nights Weekly I Disco Music Nightly \ V Beach Musio on Thursdays J Free Dinners Given To Old TOG' Special Keg Parties For Special Collegej News Beyond The Square New York - Economist Milton Friedman said Sunday that a U.S. recession is inevitable and could come as early as the first quarter of next year. Washington- President Carter, in an emotional plea for compromise, said Monday that it would be “horrible” if Israel and Egypt fail to reach a peace agreement. Carter said the disagreements holding up the peace talks in Washington are over technicalities that have “absolutely no historical significance.” Only a week ago Cyrus Vance was saying that almost all the major issues in the negotiations had been settled. The situation began to deteriorate Thursday night when Egyptian negotiators delivered a demand by Sadat for a timetable for carrying out the Israeli promise to establish Palestinian autonomy on the occupied West Bank of the Jordan River and in the Gaza Strip.
