Page 4, Salemite, April 27,1979 Sgeak^Out-Cont^ incapable one incapable of self- satisfaction and the one completely self-satisfied - in myself and in others. I have come to realize this year, however, that I also fear them in Salem College. I fear a Salem College which cannot focus on its strengths because it is overcome by its weaknesses, and so just “gives up” the battle for excellence. But I think that is an unlikely situation. I fear much more a Salem College which is self-satisfied, which pats ins elf,on the back for its strengths and locks its weaknesses in the back closet out of sight and out of mind. You might wonder why I care that Salem always continue the struggle for excellence. I care because _ Salem has incredible potential; potential realized in a tradition of 207 years of sound education, and potential yet unrealized, potential to take a front-row seat in the academic world. But perhaps I care the most because Salem has given me the opportunity and the supportive environment, better than any I could ever have asked for, in which to work for my own goals and to fight my own personal battle for excellence. I want to see Salem always be the very best that she can be, so that all of you here now and students in the years to come may have the same, un matched, unforgetable op portunity that I have had at Salem. KateWaOace Seniar Suryey , Amy De Court and Caroline Wannamaker. conducted an informal survey of the Claas of 1979 m order to find out what the Seniors - wilt be doing or hope to be doing in the near future, as well as in a few years. This information was given voluntarily and un fortunately all Seniors were unable to be contacted. We felt this would be of interest to the Salem Community.
