page 2 Editorials Editors' Note by April Edmondson Amy Cass i Well, once again we hav6 made it to the end, at least almost to the end. That long final stretch is the ' only part that awaits. As we look to our "last" papers and tests we began to realize that we have yet another paper to publish before exams. Of course, we will have an absolute ball while working on it. As long as we can figure out how to successfully publish this paper when we only know how to turn on the computer and, with step by step instructions, how to put the disk in! We may be in trouble! Fortunately, we feel very comfortable in writing this ' editorial because we are letting you know about our worst fears and shortcomings. At least we have good writers and a very enthusiastic staff. And when all else fails we have the trash can! Another one of those terrible nightmares we have is organizing a meeting and only us being there. ' That's pretty scary when you look at our writing abilities. And even more scary when you realize we will be publishing a twelve page paper no matter what. Through late nights, few articles, ' non-existent staff, and hell, we will publish! In looking ahead we believe we will be able to use the computers effectively by next Christmas. Who knows, maybe by that time our trashcan will not be used so much!! And another concern, more similar to an irritating itch, is our , telephone system, which we share with Babcock's lobby. In the event you ever try to call our office and | some unknowledgeable person answers and does not what you are talking about or where our office is located, you have definitely reached the lobby of Babcock. In that event we would suggest you hang up immediately and try back in about two minutes. That gives the person who answered time to leave! By the way our number in the office is 721-2825. | ■Our most terrifying fear lies in the budget, or at least, what we hope is the budget. By the way, if you haven't purchased a pair of boxers they will only be on sale for a few more days; we are also taking orders for sizes 36, 38, and 40. So give us a call! Of course, when all else fails and everything looks hopeless we will be able to call Katie in Charlotte next year. She will aid us with "over the phone instructions" and if that does not work then we will need all your prayers. Actually, we will need your prayers anyway! During our first issue as co-editor's we have begun to see many ups and a few downs. We already have some new creative ideas and we hope to bring you an even more interesting paper in the future. I, Susie Salem, want you all to take a deep breath. It's that time of year - you know room draw and term-paper time. Friends begin to take out their frustrations on others. We need to remember that you often hurt the ones that mean the most to you. It seems as if everyone is having "one of those days." In reality, we all need to learn how to relax , myself included. If we let things that get to us, matters in which we have no control, we are setting ourselves to have our feelings hurt. We all must remember that we are only responsible for ourselves. However, if one of your friends is down in the dumps, by all means take the time to talk to her and try to cheer her up. You know she is also entitled to have "one of those days." We are all "sisters" and we should cherish every moment we spend here because the real world 13 a jungle! Letters To The Editors Dear Editor, I find it hard to understand why Salem students cannot live on^ campus during stunmer school. I realize that Governor's School students occupy the dorms, but could Salem keep one of the small dorms open for us during summer school? It is hard enough to find an apartment for the summer and next to impossible to find one for the five weeks of a single summer school session at Salem. I think this is an issue that should be addressed by the administration. Summer school allows students to concentrate on a particular subject. I wish the administration would look into this matter or find another option for housing Salem summer school students. Sincerely/ Tammy Taylor Dear Editor, As T-shirt sales increase towards the end of the year, each theme puzzles me. Over the past three years I have realized the importance of T-shirts supporting Salem, but must a majority revolve cuoimd drinking and how drunk one cem get? If an effort is to be made to make us conscious of the effects of alcohol, siu-ely new designs promoting Salem could be submitted. It may come as a surprise but not all students drink for various reasons. Wearing a T-shirt that says, "If you weren’t wasted the weekend was!" or "Why get half cooked when you can get fully baked" is a turn-off and has caus^ me not to support Salem in this manner. Yes, these T-shirts are funny and the sale of them can be a money maker. But, whatever we do, vfs. represent Salem and are visible in Winston-Salem as well as the other cities we visit. In years to come wouldn't a colorful T-shirt like this years Interclub Dance T-shirt stand to represent more? I think a more positive glance at Salem could be, and should be shown.
