page 12 Misc. Ad hoc - continued from p. 1 visitation The committee decided to propose 24 hour visitation on dance weekends only on a trial basis. The Student Advisory Committee heard the proposal and presented a discussion to the Board of Trustees. When asked if she felt prepared for the October 11 meeting. Miss Worrell said she felt ready and that every issue had been brought to her attention. Miss Worrell spoke with one of the ministers at Home Moravian Church about the issue and she said he was receptive and spoke openly about the sexuality of the matter. They also talked about dorms versus hotels. Mary N. Davis, member of the Board of Trustees and College alumnae Class of 1972, said, "I'm open to it. I baven t made up my mind. I’m waiting to hear exactly what the proposal is." She said the Trustees feel like the students are handling the situation well. Steve Wright head of Public Safety, said he believes increased male visitation will mean an increase in security. He also said that on a co-ed campus "guys will try to protect girls in the total living environment - ours is a special case." Mr. Wright's concerns include property damage (rooms, campus, vending machines, halls, lobbies), parking problems, and underage drinking. "We're here to protect you, not tell you what to do." Mr. Wright reiterated what Interdorm Council will be faced with - that each student is responsible for her male guest. "Interdoim is always an asset. It's better for them to deal with the students rather than Salem." Mr Wright said the only changes he may make is increased patrolling in the dorms for maximum safety, although it is controversial. He foresees no need to hire more officers. He also said he would bring Winston-Salem police into the picture for violations such as underage drinking. Respon 2-continued from p. 1 happei ed." Dr. lames Edwards response was, "There are no words to describe Dean Cobb's resignation and I certainly do not understand what’s going on!" Although the memo sent to the faculty and staff members on October 16 stated that Dean Cobb's resignation is due to family considerations, there seems to be a definite concern over the loss of Dean Cobb and the role other elements might have played in her decision. The faculty has called three "special concerns" meetings to date. These meetings have addressed the issues of Dean Cobb's resignation, the unrest among the student body, and the management style of President Litzenburg. In an interview on October 17 with President Litzenburg, I asked him to address the speculation tha. there is a personality or Cobb - continued from p. 1 President will review and, if needed, revise various management procedures' and practices." Unfortunately for the Salem community. Dean Cobb's resignation it non-negotiable. In a recent interview. philosophical conflict between Dean Cobb and himself. His response was, "I can't speak to that. I provided in my memo exactly the reason she gave and the only reason she gave. I think Dean Cobb is a splendid Dean and I would be elated if she would stay." The students’ concerns over the resignation of Dean Cobb have been immense. Many students have expressed a great deal of anger over why they were not informed at the same time the faculty and staff members were. Another volatilf issue surrounding tht communication element of the campus is, "Why is President Litzenburg not available or visible, to us?" These issues have been addressed via a special student meeting called by the Executive Board of SGA on October 24. For more information see the article by Amy Cass on page 7. President Litzenburg commented, "Dean Cobb is an absolutely first rate person...she has, in her short period with us, made extraordinary contributions to the community...! think Dean Cobb is an splendid Dean and I would be elated if she would stay." Ghosts - continuted from p. 8 moon provided cunple light to find her way and silhouetted the trees bare limbs, that swaying crisp breeze looked like dancing skeletons. Peggy reached the five tombstones by the hole tom in the ground and bent down to touch the cold stone. She felt a chill travel from her fingers through her body, and then as if reaching her heart, she began to weep. She fell in the ground dropping her roses on the frozen ground. Her thoughts drifted to a scripture her aunt had taught her "The sun shall no longer be your light by day, nor for brightness shall the moon give light to you; for the Lord will be to you and everlasting light, and your God your glory" she spoke softly. "Your sun shall no longer go down, nor shall your moon withdraw itself; for the Lord will be your everlasting light, and the days of your mourning shall be ended." Peggy laid with her head on the tombstone and softly cried. She awoke later in her own bed, feeling rested. Looking in the mirror. she noticed the circles gone from around her eyes and the color back in her face. She felt great as she showered and went to breakfast. Her day was wonderful, and Peggy decided the past week was just a product of stress. That afternoon in the hall, some girls were discussing the Halloween party and the topic changed to the meaning of Halloween. "It means Hallows Eve. It originated from years ago when people would visit graves of loved ones on that specific night. Hallows Eve was said to have rejuvenating powers on the souls of the dead - restoring them to a land of goodness and a land of light," one girl explained. Peggy laughed and said "Old wives tales" and walked down the hall to her room. Peggy didn't want to think right now - just sit and relax. Her mind had been playing tricks on her from working too hard. That was it, sensory overload, Peggy thought. That’s all it was. Nothing ever happened, no grave yard, no ghosts, just mind games. But its all over now, she decided. I feel fine. It never happened. Across Old Salem, the groundskeeper of Gods Acre was arranging some beautiful white roses that he found next to the five cracked gravestones. ir BIG 3+3 ANt) we SPORTS CLUB present THE SECOND ANNUAL TURKEY SHOOT WITH ECHOES EARM NOV. 10, 9PM-1 AM $3.00 SALEM $^.00 WITH SPORTS CLUB ID. $5.00 GUESTS proper ID required 't, % SWEATERS...
