\ *1 1. V ». •*. Editorials page 3 Letters to the Editors Dear Editors, I am writing on a comment that I heard from someone through another someone. The first someone who did the talking happens to be a good friend of mine, but I’m not going to mention her name. What she said was that no one attends C.A.C. events. Well ladies, I am furious.'^'What you all probably don't realize is how much time goes into planning these events that we sponsor! I am well aware of the fact that we don’t get as big of a turnout at our functions as Big 3+3 does, but Big 3+3 also has a larger budget than we do. Not a lot bigger, but enough. I have to wonder if this person happened to attend the "That’s Entertainment" when Bertice Berry performed in February when the Refectory was almost full. Did this person attend Jeff Dunham and Peanut at the beginning of the year when the refectory was almost as full. Well, I doubt it if this person says that no one attends these events. I don’t know if I used the right words when I said I was furious, my feeling are very, very hurt. I have busted my butt to try to put C.A.C. on the map. That was one of my promises in my campaign speech last year. To be perfectly honest with everyone I don’t care if I am the only person who thinks this, but I think I have done an alright job. Apparently, I have to pat myself on the back since no one else attends the events, correct? There are a lot of people involved in C.A.C. who have done their fair share in helping out (you know who you are) and who can understand my feelings. It is really a slap in the face when someone says something like that and it eventually gets back to you, the person in charge. This person whom I am talking about has also never said Once "Great job Jenny!" or "You have really done a lot for C.A.C.", but then again how would this person know if she hasn’t attended any events. It is Very painful when your own friends don’t even attend the events that you think will be fun for them. It is also painful when only a few people congratulate you on a job well done. For that is why I took this position, for the students to attend entertainment events and enjoy themselves. If I get no feedback, I don’t know what to do differently. All I have to say is thanks to those who supported me, I appreciate it more than you will ever know. And for the rest of you can kiss my ! Sincerely, Jenny Savage Dear Editors, I just wanted to take the time to thank a certain person on campus that took on the job of' Food Committee Chairperson. Caroline Swope does not have a glamorous job and the food is definitely not a subject easy to calm students about. Despite all this, Caroline has done a great job. Though her meetings niay be many and her attendance strict, that seems to be the only way to keep interest going around here. I’m not on the kick of giving credit where it isn't due, but in this case Caroline deserves it. The Food Committee has had an active role this year and has brought about several beneficial changes to the students’ likings. I just wanted to say thanks for keeping involved, Caroline. Sincerely, Sally Lemmon SENIORS ITS 7HA7VME OF 7EAR... LAS7 WILL AND 7ES7AMN7S 7HE SALE/VU7E URGES EACH SENIOR 70 SUBRII7 AND PAR7ICIPA7E IN7HIS 7RADI7I0N! DUE m LA7ER 7HAN 7HURSDAY, APRIL 12 Dear Editors, I just wanted to express my disappointment in th;9,, overall behavior of our student body at two events. The first event was the CAC sponsored concert by the Duke’s Men of Yale. After they were announced, we were asked to please be quiet and use our Salem manners. The request went completely unheeded. The usual supper-time chatter even seemed louder than normal. The second situation was at the SGA election speeches in March. A group of seniors snickered and made comments through almost every speech. This made it very difficult to concentrate on what the candidates were saying. Dear Editors, I’m writing this as a way of saying thank you to Salem’s hardest working individual. I am referring to Mr. Tilley. You may not see him on a daily basis or learn a great deal from him about landscaping, but I have learned one important thing from him. I have learned a great deal about hard work! The surroundings that we live in are a direct result of his dedication. I first realized his importance after the tornado. I have never seen anyone work so hard or be so What has happened to common courtesy? I was extremely embarrassed by our behavior in front of the singers from Princeton. I’m sure that they were very impressed with Salem College- we were so quiet and attentive! The behavior during the campaign speeches really upset me, too. "The fact that seniors were being disruptive is even worse. With events like Founder’s Day Zonvocation, Honor’s Convocation, and especially Graduation coming up in the future, let us please remember our manners and use them. How can we expect to be treated as women if we behave like :hildren? Thank you, Paige Goza dedicated. Again I noticed his dedication back in December when I saw him removing snow from around the square at 10 p.m. one night! While everyone else was celebrating the possible cancellation of classes the next day, Mr. Tilley was working. I, personally, want to thank him and I encourage each of you to recognize his dedication early one spring morning as you walk to class smelling the freshly cut grass and noticing the beautiful surroundings that we often take for granted! Sincerely, Katherine Livermon Congratulations! by Strut Newitt I would like to take a moment to congratulate all of the candidates who were recently elected to both Student Government and organizational offices. I feel extremely confident in their ability to lead and aivxiously look forward to seeing them succeed. However, this small minority is not the only group that deserves recogrution. I would like to personally thank every person who made the effort to run for an office. It is much easier to sit around and complain about things rather than to take the initiative to try and change them... This was clearly evident in the amount of unopposed offices that we had this year. It upset me greatly to hear the number of people who made sure that there was a "yes or no" vote next to every unopposed office on the ballot. If you felt so strongly that the candidates weren’t qualified for the job, then why didn’t you run yourselves? Each of you who ran for office has earned my utmost respect. I firmly believe that the willingness to take on responsibility shows a certain maturity of one’s character. I hope that those of you who were not elected to office will find other ways to channel your concern and abilities. It is truly a pity that all of you who took the initiative to run could not be rewarded. Congratulations, three cheers, and best wishes for a future filled with success.
