^— 'me The Straight Talk on Wayne's World by Angie Shotts and Betsy Giannini Two thumbs up! Excellent! Party On Betsy! Party on Angie! Wayne's World, as we all know originated from a Saturday Night Live skit. Therefore, the humor is aimed at the young adult aowd. The movie is highly entertaining The plot is thin, but the humor carries you through. Waynes's World is a great movie to see after a long hard night such as sophmore/Senior. Dana Garvey, Mike Myers and even Rob Lowe show their true talent in this film. So, go enjoy and pick your own ending. And remember, that babe- a licious babe sure can wail. Straight Talk This movie stars Dolly Parton and James Woods. It has the common theme of poor girl turn famous. Caught in the lie of pretending she is a doctor, Dolly learns that honesty is always the best policy. This movie is full of down home southern wit and is done in Dolly's usual clean manner, but we still enjoyed it! Fair i Aatioa The Salem Commons by Hester Havercamp The Salem Commons has most defi nitely seen its share of action since opening on February 28 for the Winter Formal. Friday's Casino Night and the Winter Formal dance in the Great Hall were a big success. The accoustic band Harrison and McClure also entertained Sunday afternoon in the Commons Lounge. Salem was also entertained in the Lounge with the memorable songs of the Gentleman Callers from Wheaton College and the Dukesman of Yale. Other special events in the Commons included Strong's pre-St. Patrick's Day dance party in the Grille area and the mysteries of magician extraordinaire. Debbie Cates welcomes any new suggestions for the Commons and hopes that all the many requests for "a place to hang out" and "yogurt" have been happily met! Ironically, the delivery of the beautiful new chairs for the Grille was delayed due to the civil war in Yu goslavia, where they were n\ade! On April 25 Jane Powell, Jazz, R&B and Motown singer, will be singing in the Commons for the Alumnae and Founder's Day Weekend. Lastly, the post-Sophomore/Senior party in the Commons was a tremen dous success. The band Residew from Davidson College provided excellent tunage and both the 25 cent draft and Salem's charming women (not neces sarily in that order!) drew a good-sized crowd. As on WFU male visitor com mented as to what brought him to Salem,"We saw all the flyers at Wake, and this time we came!" Keep it up Sa lem! Eco Notes Environmentally Safe Cleaners by Jeni Thomas Household cleansers can be very helpful products that allow us to clean and freshen our world. However, these products, while helpful, can be very damaging to the enviroiunent. Most cleansers end up going down the drain (via sinks, tubs and toilets), and out into the soil, water and even the air. Here, these harsh chemicals can dis turb the natural balance of the environ ment— killing animals and plant life, and even poisoning our own water supply. While this is a dismal pros pect, there are several things you can do to help. First, pin-point your cleans ing needs and find an environmentally safe substitute. For example: baking soda is an excellent scrubbing and cleansing powder that vdll not scratch or harm surfaces. Vinegar is a wonder ful grease cutter and window cleaner. Both of these products are significantly cheaper than conventional cleansers. There are also several commercial envi- ronmentally-safe cleansers available at vour local health food store. Whenyou find thatyou have to use a conventional cleanser such as laun dry and dish^etergent, make sure that itisphosphate-free. A cup of vinegar or baWng soda in the final rinse of you wash in an effective whitening agent instead of bleach. BIG 3 + 3 WANTS TO THANK MAINTENANCE, HOUSEKEEPING, & ARAM!
