Let Us Be An Example By HARRY T. CLOUGH Let us ponder well the lessons and the obligations imposed up on us, to see to it that we keep well to the fore such decent and manly things as shall draw the youth of today, a virile youth, with a mind bred and trained to cope with twentieth century prob lems, where he shall find as a re freshing fount the golden lessons of Freemasonry, lessons that will rest and refresh and fortify for the labor that must be his. A mother sat knitting as her daughter read from a book the meaning of given names of her special three friends. “Mother,” the daughter re marked. “It says that Phillip means ‘Lover of horses’ and James means ‘Beloved’, I wonder what George means?” “I hope dear,” the mother re plied, “that George means bus iness.” NORWOOD INSURANCE AGENCY Mutual Insurance H. He will be noted as an exemplary citizen in all relations. He may not be a member of any church; he may not profess faith in any particular creed, but he must profess faith and trust in God. He will deal honorably, justly and generously with his neigh bors. He will be true to his fam ily, and if need be, sacrifice every personal and selfish gratification that he may the better protect and provide in every way for those dependent upon him. He will be careful in his busi ness dealings and always make his word and bond of equal value in the estimation of those with whom he has business con nections. He will ever be courteous and considerate of others, always ready to assist as the case may require when and where assist ance is needed. He will show his moral discip line by never having his name connected with any transaction of a questionable or immoral na ture. In other words — he will be a man at all times. A house prowler awakened the occupants of the house and point ed his revolver at Mr. Whiffle- toaster. “Don’t move!”, said the burglar, “or I’ll shoot. I’m gonna hunt for your money.” “Let me turn on the light,” came a voice from under the bed covers, “and I’ll hunt with you.” Let's Forget The "Funny" Stuff How unfortunate it is for Free masonry that there may still be found a few members in our lodges who think it is their bounden duty to be funny when an initiation is going on. They seem to delight in approaching a candidate, making remarks which they consider excruciat ingly humorous. We need not repeat here their catch-phrases. They are pretty well known to all of us. None are new or origin al, but all are definitely un- Masonic. Such procedure has a tendency to destroy in advance the beauti ful lessons later to be conveyed to the candidate. Our ancient brethren compiled the lectures of Freemasonry with an earnest desire to impress wise and im portant truths. To have their ser ious contemplations burlesqued by thoughtless silly remarks is embarrassing to the candidate and highly distasteful to the Craft in general. There is much comfort in the thought that the brethren indulg ing in such foolishness are de creasing in number with each passing year, and we eagerly look forward to the time when their kind shall have entirely disap peared from among the ranks of our ancient and honorable Craft. One must never forget when misfortunes comes that it is quite possible they are saving one from something much worse. — Sir Winston Churchill.
