Permit No. 12 Route 4 J. C. March 1960 Bio. Dan Miller Is Honored By Stanly Lodge Monday night, March 28, was observed as “Dan Miller Night” by Albemarle Lodge No. 703, at which time Bro. Miller, tyler of the lodge, was presented a 25- year certificate of continuous membership. The certificate was presented by Bro. Nat C. Dean, D.D.G.M., who paid tribute to Bro. Miller for his years of service, and to the fine job he has been doing as chairman of the Oxford Or phanage committee of Albemarle Lodge. In a short talk to the mem bers present, Bro. Miller ex pressed his appreciation for the recognition given him and for the many congratulations of the brethren. His desire, he said, is to make 1960 the best year yet for the Oxford Orphanage and Masonic Home campaign. During the evening three can didates were raised to the Sub- lume Degree of Master Mason. Several visitors from other lodges helped to make this one of the best-attended meetings of the year. Bro. E. T. VanHoy Is Transferred To Charlotte Bro. E. T. VanHoy, member of the State Highway Patrol, and valued member of Albemarle Lodge No. 703, has been pro moted to Corporal, and will be assigned to Charlotte and Meck lenburg County, effective April 1. Pfc. VanHoy, who has served the Patrol in Stanly County for ]i has been active in all community affairs, particularly CiiurCii work. Taylor Of Stanly Lodge Died March 25 Bro. Richard L. Taylor, 89 years of age, and a meniber of Stan ly Lodge No. 348, died Friday, March 25, at Cape Fear Valley Hospital in Fayetteville after a long siege of illness. A 50-year certificate of Ma sonic membership was presented Bro. Taylor during 1959. In re cent years his health had not permitted him to attend Masonic gatherings, but the older mem bers of the fraternity remember him as a faithful attendant and willing worker. He was the son of the late Caswell and Elizabeth Barringer Taylor and was married to the former Miss Laura Bell Stone who died in 1958. Mr. Taylor was a member of the Richfield Methodist Church. Funeral services were held on Sunday, March 26. at 3 p m. at the Richfield Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. George Clay. Interment was in the Richfield Cemetery. Survivors include one daugh ter, Mrs. W. S. Bogle of Concord; two sons, Ralph of High Point and Hubert of Fayetteville; and two sisters, Mrs. H. E. Ketchie of Kannapolis and Mrs. Mary Taylor of Morganton. New Officers Are Installed By Eastern Star Officers to head Albemarle Chapter No. 71. Order of the Eastern Star, during 1960, were installed in impressive formal ceremonies on Saturday evening, March 26, at the Masonic Temple. Mrs. Cannie Watson was in stalled as Worthy Matron, and Reuben B. Lowder as Worthy Patron. Other elective officers receiving their oaths of office were: Mrs. Georgia Morgan, Associ ate Matron; Vernon Holt, Asso ciate Patron; Mrs. Frances Low der, Secretary; Mrs. Zula Gantt, Treasurer; Mrs. Inez Calloway, Conductress: and Mrs. Lula Ross, Associate Conductress. Also installed were the follow ing appointive officers: Dewey Fesperman, Chaplain; Mrs. Mary Camp, Marshall; Mrs. Blanche Johnson, Organist; Mrs. Louise Lowder, Ada; Mrs. Louise Crisco, Ruth; Mrs. Elethe Doby, Esther; Mrs. Juanita Morris Martha; Elease Lowder, Electra; Mrs. Dorothy Lowder, Warder; John Ross, Sentinel; and Mrs. Dezzie Whitley, Instructress. Installs New Officers For 1960 Mrs. Lee Eddins was installed as Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star on March 21 at an open meeting of the order at the lodge hall.
