These books have beeTi carefully selected and graded according to the grade range. A few of these books will be accepted for credit by eighth and nineth graders. If those desiring to read these books will see Miss Ferrel, she v;ill gladly assist them, since these books are on the shelves of’the elementary library, Hei CARE OF BOOKS GOOD SAYS MISS FERRELL At present on the shelves of the school library are 1708 books. Of this number 765 are in the high school library, the remainder •READER’S DIGEST" DISCLOSES INTERESTING ARTICLES The ’’Readers Digest" for October has man^^ interesting article s that ’’catch the eye”. That the students are handling the books carefully is evident for only forty-one have been discarded from the high school library during the past two years. VARIED TYPES OF READING REQUIRED BOOKS CLASSIFIED To acquaint students with all types of reading rather than encouraging them to form the habit of reading only one type, the English department requires books of dif ferent classification to bo read each month " for credit. The classification required for the eighth, ninth, and tenth grades are as follows: fiction, 2; adventure and travel, 2; historical, 2; na ture, 1; and biography, 1, The eleventh grade is required to road four classics, including the works of outstand ing authors as Shake speare, Dickcns,Thack- ery, and Scott» The remaining foxir books may bo taken from the ].
