November 15, 1942 BAILEY BUGLE _£agiLJLa— Miss Wetherington And Dr. Tppet Visit The School Miss JaneWetlaer.in^ton j and Dr, James S.Tippet ' paid Bailey school a visit some time ago in the interest of ' the new twelfth grade pr*o- gram recently added to the schools of North Carolina, They stressed the fact that this program affecting all the grades from the first through high school will afford more time for certain vital sub jects; such as, sci ence and arts and crafts, v/hich here tofore have had to be crowded into the ciu’- .riculum. Miss Wetherington, with a cominittee of art teachers, has pre pared a new art bul letin, "Art in the Pub lic Schools, Years 1- Xll'j This bulletin is based upon the fol-- lov;ing theses; first, that art should be c part of every phase of living; second, that every person should have guidance in art principles; third,that tiEt is worthy 'for art’s sake; fourth, that art is worthwhile as c leisure time interest. Dr, Tippett talked tc the teachers, giving helpful suggosti.ons and answering ques tions pcrtainiag to the initiation :>f this program in the school system. He is offering his scrviccs to the schools and teachers throughout the state to help them organize their curriculum to fit this nov; need. the accredited list in 1939,requires the fol lowing needs to main tain that standard: A set of tools for grades ono through' seven, fivo easels, a victrola with a minimum of twelve records,a teach er’s supply closet for each room, and three extra hand lavatories. RETURN VISIT i Miss Wetheri'igton, from the Divis.on of Instructional Sei'vice, came back last Itonda and spent the day. She v/as accompanied by Mr, Inscoe. Together thoj inspected the buildinc; to determine needii foi maintaining the re quirements for aocre ditment.
