February 12 . 1945 BAILEY BUGLE i SCHCX)L DESIGNS SCRAPBOOK FOR NATIONAL CONTEST Mrs. Murn^y Leaves f~oi New Duties With Johnson's Grocery Medals Await Best Students Awards for the best all round boy and girl will again be given at the end of this semes ter. Mr. Walker^ states that if watches aren’t available this year, something of equal va lue will be given. As in former years, other medals will be awarded to outstanding students in the journ alism, home economic, and agriculture depart ments, as well as one for scholarship and citizenship. Students Collect Tin Cans Collecting tin cans is a rare hobby in the school at the present time. Washed and pressed out, about 125 pounds of cans have been brought in to date. These cans taken to Nashville by Samuel Glover, v/hen he car ried his bus there for repairs, were diimped on the collection pile, Mr. C. H. V/alker, principal, is urging the students to keep bringing in these cans and any other scrap metal vital to the war production. Our capable lunch room manager, Mrs, Percy Murray, has af ter two years of faith ful service left us. Under her 'supervision, our lunch-room has im proved from a small room that served only sandwiches and soup occasionally to a large, clean, well-su pervised unit that serves from 200 to 250 hot lunches daily. Mrs. Murray is now working at D- L. John son’s grocery. Y/o all v;ish her luck in her new capacity. Al- tliough the advisers v;lll still correct and criticize, the staff will direct the com- ple‘te publishing of the' paper. Book, ENTintD 'SCHOOU At War” Scrapbooks, entitled "Schools At War", and sent to high schools throughout the nation by the U. S, Office of Education and its war time commission, Wash ington, D. C,, are to be filled out with ar ticles and pictures portraying the efforts made toward promoting war thinking and acti- vitios, ARTICLES PROM BUGLE Articles from the Bai ley Bugle dealing v/ith bond sales, scrap cam paigns, the victory corps, and other war activities of the school provides materi al for the scrapbook being made at Bailey High School. It also includes drawings, headlines, and any other creative work of 'the school pertaining to the war effort. Students working on this scrapbook are Maude Leviris, . Bobbie Mox’san, and Josephine Griffin. FUDGED WITH OTHERS North Carolina scrap books will be sent to the county superinten dent and will be for warded to Raleigh and finally to Washington to be judged against others from all over the nation.
