In the same manner as these are tackled, conquered--or unconquered--so v;ill later problems be met. Realizing this, more intensive study needs to be undertaken by most Bailey stu dents. The happiness and success secured from life is in accordance to v/hat is put into it. Those who are too lazy to accept the challenge or too easily allured by enjoyment can ex pect only defeat. Those offering the excuse that they can’t accom plish anything after trying must supplant the idea with the thought that to him who strives, eventually will come victory. Democracy cannot exist witheut food. Everybody growing a garden will be helping the food situation and in the jaeantime hastening vic tory. How Old Do You Have To Be To Love Your Country? When the thirteen-year old "boy" Marino asked on a rccent radio pro gram, ’’After all, how old do you have to bo to love your coimtry?” it was a challenge thrown out to young Americans. Love of country is not the flag-waving commercial ism that is flaiinted when a coiintry is at war, nor is it just sitting still wishing you were old enough to join the armed services. It's a lot of little things--things that take place from day to day, physi cal fitness, respect for people and laws, conscientious use of time, both at home and at school, obedi ence, and dependability. Of course young Americans get a liamp in their throats when they hear a stirring song, but do they really do anything about this love of country from day to day? The "boy" Marine certainly proved his patriotism. Such unreasonable steps aren’t necessary for boys and girls to prove theirs. Merely doing their every day tasks to the best of their ability and not dodging ,op- portiinities arc the best possible proofs. This war will be won with men, tanks, and planes, but how will the lasting peace, the ultimate goal, be won? It will not be won by ha tred or submission. This v/ar is to free the world. Why not lot all the v/orld share this freedom and have an international police force to prevent anyone’s abusing it. Come on, students, give next year’s school paper a helping hand. Whether you know it or not 16 of the 26 active staff members are sen iors who will be graduating'in the spring. Pew students arc prepared to fill these vacancies. Some stu dents have recently volunteered to begin training in order to do a good job next year, Others are needed.
