April 16. 1945 BAILEY 8UGIE Page 1 SFNIORS LIMIT EXERCISES TO ONE PROGRAM Buqle Again Rates First Class By scoring from elj^i>- hundred and fifty to a thousand points, six issues of the Bailey Bugle sent to the Co lumbia Scholastic Press Association news paper contest rate first claas among du plicated paper of the forty-four states en tering the contest. Not only did the Bu gle v/in first class in the states, but it al so won first place in the Carolinas among mimeograph papers wilh- in its classification. Last year Bailey en tered its paper in the contest for the first time and at that time achieved first class recognition also. Scrvice Flag To Be Gift Of Seniors Bailey seniors leave to the school a ser vice flag to be placed over the trophy cabi net in the main hall. This flag, 5' by 8} will have a red border with a white field. The stars, three in ches in diameter, will be of blue felt satin. All boys that have at tended Bailey school and are in the armed forces will be repre sented by a star. Blue stars will rep resent boys in service and gold stars v;ill be used for the missing and the dead. Financps Of Bugle Practically Balance Incomplete check-up of the years’ finan cial status of the Bu gle indicates there will be practically no indebtness for the pa per. Income from subscrip tions and ads totals $200.30; expenditures,' paper.,, stencils, ink, equipment,Incidentals, and senior pictures make a total of $207 ,5 6, Extra sales of last edition is expected to balance the accoimt. Sarah was contacted by the Telegram, in terviewed, and offered the assignment after the paper learned through Mrs. E. A. Howton,Telegram Proof reader, that the Bugle had again won first place in the CSPA con test . Last year Sarah was assistant editor of the Bugle, and as a result of her ability and interest v;as named editor for this year. CHAPLAIN TO SPFAK At the request of the State Department com mencement exorcises this year v/ill bo held in one night instead of the usual two night programs. Chaplain R. E. Quick, from Seytnoro Johnson Field, Goldsboro, will preach the Baccalaure ate Sermon, Sunday morning, April 25, at eleven o’clock. Reverend Mark Osborne of the Missionary Baptist Church is in charge of the music and Mrs. James Murray will bo the pianist. CLASS DAY EXERCISES On Monday night at 8:00 the Class Day play "The Pincushion Doll" will bo given I follov/ed by the pre sentation of the diplo mas and other awards. Shortage of time’ will not permit a speaker for the graduation ex ercises. Baifey Meets Quota Bailey’s quota for the Red Cross drive was $400. T/Irs. James Murray had chargo of the drive in town and , Carl Walker at Bailey High School. Donations made to liirs, Murray and Mr. Walker amounted to $406.24. Classes loading in the collection of B.H.
