EDITOR Gi^ADf CLASSMISSES StudentsBringFood Tiae Sixth Grade is missing Jimmie Jones this year, but we are glad tQ hear from him and to know he is on the road to recovery. He is in the V/oodard- Herring Hospital in ?/ilson suffering from a bone infection. The local doctors adminis tered the sulpha drugs to which he did not respond. Then Jim mie became Imown state-v/ide when the doctors made an appeal for the nev; drug, pen- icilin. Jimmie becamo the first person in eastern Carolina to use the drug. As a re sult he is now recover- ing. Sevent hGrade Sporvsors Bond Contest The seventh grade is divided into two groups. The boys have joined the Junior Air Corp and the girls have, joined the Spars. \7e are competing to see which group can buy more bonds and stamps. The Junior Air Corp is ahead nov/. Our quota is $100. The winning Corp will be served. The seventh grade has entered the food-for lunchroom contest. The room bringing the most food will be given a party by the lunch room workers. ThreeNewTeachers InGrannmar Grades At a time when there is a shortage of tea chers throughout the state and nation,Bai ley High School is for^ tunato to have her ranks filled. We arc glad to welcome Miss Pearl Lamm of Wilson County as our fifth grade tcacher. She is a graduate of E.C.T.C. and has taught for the past three years in Currituck. Mrs. T.C, May and Mrs. Roland Glover, former tcach- ers in our comiminity, heard the call of duty and have returned to the school room. Mrs, May is again teaching the seventh grade; Mrs, Glover has a combina tion grade of third and fifth, as theoo grades were unusually large this year. J. We know there are five classes in school who would realize that they v/ere born several years too soon if they would take a glance at our new history ,book, "The Past Lives Againi' It is a fairy book when compared with some of the histories used in former days. As "The Past i^Llves Again" we hope to learn of "Our Begin ning in Europe and America."
