In the Bailey School during the first two months there were 1,474 ab sences, an average of 39 per day. Let me re mind- yovi again that tcachers are alloted to the school on the basis of average daily attendance. There are more than enough stu dents out of school each day to give us an additional teacher. CAUSES OP ABSENCES Why do children stay out of school? There are several reasons; aome of which are: 1. sickness, 2.work, 3. trviancy, 4, lack of interest. Sickness is an ac ceptable reason for rot attending school. Any j rrson v/ho is sick should stay at home.In fact the law re quires that for conta gious disoc.Gcs, Some children stay at home to work. This is :iot a legal cause. Any child who is kept Lt homo i’or work v/ho is within the com pulsory school ago is violating the law. Arrange to havo the work done after school and . on Saturdays.- Truancy is not a ser^ ious problem hero in Bailey, great but Yv'e have a many absences in most cases v;ith the consent of the parents, Lack of interest on the part of parents and children cause a gr 0 a t many ab s e n c e s.
