Mss Vifilma Johnson, sen ior home room teacher, toured the United States, going to California by the southern route and return ing by the central route. Her party made stop-overs in Nev/ Orleans, Mejcioo City, Grand Canyon, and other interesting places. ICE CAPADES Of all the places visited by Mrs, Rudolph Glover on her trip North the Ice Ca- pades at Atlantic City, Nev; Jersey, was the most outstanding, she declared. This ice show was given in the largest convention hall in the v/orld. After a rest in Kentucky Mrs. Laurine Lassiter vis ited relatives in Chicago; Miss Millie Pearson vis ited in Florida. Vfhile at Pamlico River I'rs. J. P. Underwood made a special study of wild flowers, adding forty- seven to her wild flower col lection. VISITS SON ilrs. Van Noppen visited her son's home in Poland, Ohio, this summer, Mrs. Horace Meacomes visited New York on her honeymoon; lirs. Silas Yfor- thington, V/ashington,D.C. !frs, Howard Farmer and Mrs. Howard Wilson each attended conventions re lating to their field of work, l^rs. UPPER TEN CLIQUE Yes, it*s true, A new so cial scale has been set for this year. Last year's social stand ing in high school depend ed on a case of appendi citis. It appears that "to rate" this year one must have & tonsil or adenoid oper ation. Within the first three weeks of school l&rie Williams, Isaac Medlin, Billy Murray, and I.5ary Evelyn Glover had their tonsils removed, Betty Doris Sanders stepped a little higher by having a tonsil and adenoid oper ation, \/illiam Glover tried to be listed in the social register by having an abscessed throat. Don’t give up hope, William, be cause the doctor says that if you have further throat trouble you vjill have to have your tonsils removed. From all reports the people of the community are trying to get in the social ring too, « B. Farmer EIGHTH GRADE JOINS GRAMMAR DEPARTMENT No longer departmentaliz ed, the eighth grade this year is taught as other grammar grades. Last year it v/as neces sary to have two separate classes. This year cnere is need of only cne, ar no students come frou l^ft. Pleasant. /:ji fxcra teacher has been added to Mt. Pleasant to teach the eighth grade there. IvIARLYN LANCASTER, a mem ber of the junior class, acquires the title MISS BUGLE by receiving the most points in a room- by-room subscription con test sponsored by the Bugle staff, ISarlyn will be crovmed in an evening coronation ceremony October 11» The other tv/elve contestants will be Miss Bugle's at tendants. RATING Each room in school chose its Miss Bugle, and all subscriptions secured by the class counted as points for her. Each mon th's subscription rated one point. The junior class by selling 55 year subscriptions gave I&rlyn a total of 495 points. TIES Tying for second place were Deotha Glover of the ninth grade and Carolyn Finch of the fourth with 414 points. Carolyn pro cured more subscriptions from people not in school than any other contestant, OTHER REPRESENTATIVES Other room representa tives were Dianne Tapp, Yvonne Meacomes, Lane Far mer, Joyce Thompson, Amy Lou Horton, Clara Lou Stott, Helen Jean Brown, I&ry Blanche Stone, Octa- via Beard, and Janice Bunn.
