SCHEDULE RUNS FOR WEEi:
Because of & high per«ent-
age of absences caused by
•work, the school adminis
tration decided to run on
short schedule for this
week.
Principal Weaver states
that the reason for this
short schedule is to per
mit the pupils to help
pick cotton, harvest the
hay, and dig the sweet po
tato crop.
In order to dismiss by
1:20, school . takes in
thirty minutes earlier,
has shorter class periods,
and no activity period.
Times Ch(3nge But Not People
By Keith Glover
THEME
Although times have var
ied from the sword-and-
shield era to the atomic
age, people in general
possess practically the
same ideals and supersti
tions and hold to the same
customs - as did the peq)lo
who lived hundreds of
years ago.
Even as far back as the■
Anglo-Saxon period, liter
ature reveals that among
the leading ideals were
included bravery, v;isdom,
courtesy, and discreetness.
A close inspection of mod
ern human nature v/ill show
that these very same char
acteristics predominate in
the idealism of the people
today. The ideal v/oman dur
ing the time of Queen Eli
zabeth - and 8H6 remains
unchanged until the pre
sent - was courteous, dis
creet, debonair, companion
able, and prudent.
Because of the advance of
intellectual standards ex
treme superstition has
been partially abolished;
yet a very small per cent
of the people are entirely
free of it today.
In spite of the fact that
experience and lessons
from life reveal that love
of money and drink is the
sure death of a person,
this sin of avarice and
intemperance is equally as
potent in modern times as
it was ten centuries ago.
The weaknesses of falling
for flattery and talking
too much have continued
till the present time.
These are only a few exam
ples showing that human
nature has developed lit
tle in comparison with the
advanc6s in mechanical and
scientific fields.
