AgBoysKecieveRaqLie ForOutstandingWorl^ As a reward for the points received on last year's program of work,the agricultural boys t^ere a- warded a large plaque at the October federation meeting. On the plaque there are spaces for ten smaller ones 'to be placed. A bronse, silver, or gold plaque may be earned each' year by scoring 3000, 3500, and 4000 points respective ly. Because peace time facili ties make ^ it easier to earn ratings, all goals have been raised 500 points this year. The Bailey Chapter is the only F.F.A. Chapter in the Nash-Edgecombe federation . to have obtained this honor. CORRECTION Last month’s article ’•Three Members Receive State Farmer Degree” stated that Thelbert Boykin was the only member from the Bailey Chapter to receive an American Farmer Degree. Thomas Finch has also received this award. BAILEY BUGLE BAiLFY.NORTM CAHOLINA statewide F.F.A. contests that the Nash-Edgccombe Federation decided to par ticipate in T?ere adopt ed at the October federa tion meeting. In the supervised prac tice contest the high-scor ing boy in the district wins $125 for a trip to IJansas City, If he ranks first in the state, his advisor also receives §125, The three top teams in the state parliamentary- procedure contest receive $200, vl50, and $100 res pectively. Individual state winners in the public speaking, star farmer, farm mechan- F.EA. Boys Attend Annual State Fair Approximately thirty-five members of the Bailey F.F.A. Chapter attended the annual State Fair at Raleigh October 18, By studying the displays and exhibits consisting of crops, livestock, and va rious kinds of farm equip ment, the members wit nessed some results of mod ern progressive farming. Although there were no F.F.A. exhibits at the fair this year because of lack’of time for prepara tion, the regular Future Farmer exhibits are to be on display next year. F^e„, IL E arning To Livis Ljvlr^To Serve ics, and farm electrifica tion contests $100 each. Another activity entered in the federation list is the crop contest. The win ning team in the crop judging and seed identifi cation receives §50 and the individual, ^25. Arards for the livestock improvement contest are ^125 to the high-scoring boy in the district and to his advisor for a trip to the National FFA conven tion and a $100 scholar ship to the state winner. The Forestry contest is also included, for the pur** pose of creating interest in forest preservation, VETERANS RECEIVE RAINING With twenty veterans enrolled at present, the Bailey agriculture depart ment is conducting a vet- eran-fara^training course. Regular class meets each Thursday night. Each year the veterans will get 200 hours of on- the-job training. The course is being con ducted by John Sledge and will continue as long as there arc eligible veter ans who want the training, Mri Leamon Tfeipp, Ag, teach er, is supervisor of this program.
