BAILEY BUGLE November 1. 1946 BAILEY. NORTH CAROLINA CHILDREN STUDf INDIANS The children in the se cond grade have been very interested in the study of Indians. They have been reading about the Indian in their basal teat book and lib rary books. They . have learned Indian songs and • dances. They delight in making the Indian head dress with its many color- ' ed feathers. After making from paper the teepee, canoe, crad- dle and head dress,they enjoyed making an Indian Reading Booklet. The pupils enjoyed wear ing the dainty varied colored dresses in the dance and have now put them away for safe keeping. Glover's first and second grade celebrated Richard Privette*s birth day with a party given by his mother. Mrs. Brooks Privette brought a record player to school. The re cords played were, Mother Goose Songs, In The Begin ning, and Little Black Sambo's Animal Band. Ice cream and cake were served. The pupils gave Richard their best v/ishes. They expressed their many thanks . for a . party. Surprise Party Given Little Tommy Gay and the first and second graders were very much surprised when Tommy Gay's mother visited the room, ^t wias Tommy Gay’s birthday. His mother served the class with ice cream and cake. Everyone had a very happy time.' Halloween Hallov/een is lots of fun; But somehow. I’m 'glad v/hen it’s over and done. 1 like to have mother kiss me goodnight. And know that the witches have taken flight. PKIMARYGI!.ADEHAS NATURE UNIT In Mrs. Van Noppen's 1st and 2nd grades the child ren are enjoying Nature Study through collecting and observing plants ani mals and inanimate objects. Ferns, coleus plants and rubber plants are growing and gaining color from good soil, water and sun shine. Mrs. J^ay and Celia Pitts brought several love ly potted plants. Small Ani'mals Make Home In Gaden I&ny small animals and in sects are at home in th® indoor garden. Two snails with shells travel over the sides of the aquarium. Several green grasshoopers and a brown one live there. A big black wooly bear caterpillar is happy and busy. A -big green cater pillar with a baby cater pillar nearby are attract ing much attention. Even a horsefly is v/elcome. But terflies give glamor to the scene. Gold fish, Win nie and Finnie, are the favorite objects of inter est. Among inanimate object* are Indian arrow heads of both slate and flint rock; an Indian hanmer, . some large toad • stools, and a collection of shells, con- cle, clam cateye, and peri winkle,.
