Harris Advises Simplicity
In Landscaping
Points given by J,R, Har
ris, of the extension de
partment of State College,
on landscaping are reveiw-
ed to the students by the
teachers who are members
of the Virginia Dare Book
Club.
The basic point of land
scaping, according to Llr.
Harris is simplicity, A
simple layout should con
sist of a green lawn and
Turell-balanced shrubbery
affording a background.
SUGCTSTIONS
Pecans and dogvreeds were
the trees most stressed
for backgrounds. As a
cover for garages or other
outdoor buildings, ivy was
suggested as a tender,
green, crispness the year
round.
To be enjoyed, only few
perennials should be at
tempted, further stated Ivir.
Harris. In these, colors
should be grouped to bring
out the luster in each
group* That a yard should
never be cluttered with
walks or drives, an error
that often spoils the en
tire layout, was demonstra
ted.

The junior class boasts

worn by two of its queens,
Patsy Lamm was the first
to be croTTned with it. At
that time the crown (a
cardboard crown' lustered
with gold paint), was de
corated with flowers,
Marlyh Lancaster,a junior
also, was crowned with the
same crown. This time it
was decorated with tensil
and other silver ornaments.
The inside of this crown
bears the autographs of
the juniors. Its beauty is
retained for historical
records by pictures of
Patsy and Marlyn at the
time of their crownings,
Marlyn has returned ’.the
crown to its original owtt-
