To entice people to read more and acquaint them with available books that, if they be "well Chosen and well handled, can bridge almost any situa tion" is the purpose of Book Week, The program will stress principally books that help one to understand other peoples. Among the books of this nature to be presented will be Our Good Neighbors of Russia; Hawaii ;¥onderful Adventure of Nik, Sweden; Homing, Girl of New China; Village Blackani th of Vilno, Po- land; and many others. Co-operation, interest in school activities,' con sideration of others, pro-, motion of school' activi ties, cleanliness, and de pendability are Joyce’s ideas of a good citizen, "Receiving such a thrill ing surprise" when award ed 'the medal, her first one, Joyce thinks that everyone would "get a kick" out of a similar ex perience. See MEDAL page 3 Donations help to remodel Camp Charles for Scouts’ entertainment. People of Eastern North Carolina have made dona tions to help install a 45-acre lake and rebuild quarters on the grounds of Camp Charles, Because of the fact that Camp Charles has been a Scout'Camp for a number of years, it was chosen as the camp site for all Eastern North Carolina Scouts. The camp is not expected to be finished for some time, but the lake and quarters will be available for camping next summer, AWARD AWAITS TOP STUDENT Bailey’s best all-around student just wasn’t last year. No one met the re quirements, ' Politeness, i guiotnoss; honesty, trust’.Torthincss, studiousness, and interest are a few of the character istics that teachers say make a best all-around student. The best all-around-stu- dent medal is a;7aiting the .person v/ho meets all these requirements during this school term. Lena I^iae Price, and Corina Tilliams; in the tonth grade, Margie Peele and Bon Btheridge; in the twelfth grade, Phyllis Finch.Keith Glover of the twelfth grade also made honor roll grades but was absent a day, FAILI3RES Over the same period of time there were twenty- nine failures in high school. The room having the fewest number of fai lures was Ivlrs. Howard ^I’ilson’s ninth grade girls. Atrs. ■'^^ilson’s room also had the highest average grade in high school. Seventy-two per cent of the students mde B’s and A’s.
