Kovember 22. 194(5 E igbt h Gr. Mount sPic t u res When Mrs. Howard Farmer was a guest at Hotel Fort Kacon, Morehead City^re cently, the management gave her some maps of North Carolina. On the back of each were twelve pictures (in colors) of scenes in the state. Mrs. Farmer very generously gave two of these to the eight grade to use in studying N. C. history. One map is on the board and the pictures from the other have been mounted and posted on the bulletin board. They add to the at tractiveness of the room. The grade is grateful to Mrs. Farmer and the Hotel for these maps. BIRTHDAY PARTY Gerald Gay's mother came to visit the fifth grade on Friday, Hovember 8, 1946. His birthday was on Saturday, but the party was given early so all of his classmates could en joy it with hip. Mrs. Gay served ice cream sand wiches. Everyone had a happy time. PEN PALS ' The eighth grade has been study.ing letter v/riting. Letters of all types have been written. Miss Peasson v/rote to Kirs. Suggs,the eighth grade Eng lish teacher of Avon Park^ Florida^and suggested that the pupils of the two classes correspond. I-'irs. Suggs sent the names of tiventy—n* ne of her pupils and letters have been written-to these. The class hopes to find these pupils interesting pen pals. B AtLEY^NfeRTH'^^A^QLlN A MANY THANKS The entire grammar grades wish to express their ap preciation for the invita tion to the library during Book Week. THANKSGIVING STORY Once upon a time there was a little boy who had never seen a turkey. One day he said to himself, ”I shall go into the vjoods and hunt for some turkey". Through the v/oods he went. Suddenly he sav; something that looked like something red. Then he saw that it v;as an Indian, moved slowly until he saw that the Indian was friendly. He spoke to the Indian in a kind word. The Indian spoke and then the Indian went away. The next day the Indian and the white people had a big feast. They had turkey, pumpkin pies, and lots of things. That was the first Th^-nks- giving dinner. T. Morris Eight Grade Has Picnic Since the eighth grade v/on the PTA membership prize^ it was decided to have a picnic. This picnic was held Friday afternoon in Richard Etheridge’s back yard. Games and stunts v/ere en joyed for an hour and then the picnic lunch was spread. This consisted of fried chicken, deviled eggs, sandwiches, pickles, cakes and fruit. Mrs. Ru pert Perry^who offered the prize, served the . drinks tb tho group. The invited guest wore Mrs. Etheridge and the grademothers, Mrs. Tapp and Mrs. Williams. Eay will come on Thursday, And all the turkeys will begin to worry. For on November twenty eight They will be put on our plate. Oh I v/hat a dinner vw shall eat When all of the family comes and take a seat. Turkey on every ones plate. Even if some come a little late. Thanksgiving Day just comes once a year. We all enjoy it and know Christmas is near. Hattirene Prince SIXTH GRADE OBSERVES BOOK WEEK Thirty eight books have been read this v;eek by the pupils of the sixth grade. Each child made an at tractive poster of the best book he had read this year. On Thursday the grade visited the town lilriry and selected books ‘ihe pupils would like to re^^d. The grade appreciates the interest shown them by Mrs. Y\fylie and Mrs. Morgan.
