The choice of topics were ’’Texas Independence", "The V/ar with I,!exico", "Cali fornia”, "The Oregon Ques tion", and "The Morman Settlement of Utah". The most popular subject was the last named one. These themes were graded from the standpoint of Eng lish and their history value. Miss V/ilma Johnson declares that their most outstanding defect was underdevelopment.
