Benvenue and West Edge combe won first and sec ond place respectively and are elgible to compete in the state contest at Shel by, January 30. The contest, directed by J."r. R. J, Peeler, state executive secretary, con sisted of seed judging and seed identification. Fifty samples of seed or plants were to be identified and four samples of three dif ferent kinds of seed to be judged. Ten teams from the federation, consisting of three members each compet ed. Veterans Program Grcv/5 At present the veterans' trai'^irg class at Bailey School has forty-two mem bers enrolled for three periods each weeki Tuesday afternoon, Thursday night, and Saturday morning. James W. Finch, J. Vi. T.'.eacomes, and J. Vi. Perry arc assisting v/ith the ve terans program. Camps Ho B g Operi lYhite Lake and Tom Brown F. F. A. camps will open this summer on June lo. Regulations have been changed to the effect that each member will pay the full ten dollars for a week's attendence at camp instec.d of carrying part of the food required. One dollar per person is to be sent in with the reserva- ^i’Re'Bailey F. F. A. boys plan to attend camp this summ^er,- but no definite plans have been made as to the date or the camp they will attend. fOWTH HELD IN BABIY AG. euiLDiNG For the pi;rpose of hold ing the seed j'^dging and identification contest, the fourth Nash-Edgccombe federation meeting was conducted in the Bailey Ag. building January 28. M’lth Isaac I.'edlin pre siding, the disposal of other business followed the crop contest that was directed by Mr. R. J. Peeler, state executive secretary. The parliamentary pro cedure contest is to be held during a ' supper meeting at Middlesex in February. NIXON WINS PIG LITTER CONTEST Harry Lee Nixon, a member of the Bailey chapter of the Future Farmers of America was- named winner in the statexvide pig litter contest, it was announced by R. J. Peeler, . executive secretary of K. C. Association of the FFA. This contest v/as sponsored by the N. C. FFA Associ ation. Harr;^’.s sow farro\";ed 10 pigs which weighed a total of 359 pounds at six weeks of age. The mortality rate of pigs during the first six vjeeks, farrowed by sows owned and managed by ibh boys throughout the State, was 12.2 per cent, ihe State average is above 30 per cent. Chapter Elects Ngva/ Treasurer Curing a regular chapter meeting held in the class room of the Bailey agri cultural building, Harry Lee Nixon was elected treasurer of the Bailey Chapter of -future Farmers of America to fill the va cancy left by Rex Perry's resignation.
