April 11 , 1947 BAILEY BUGLE BAILEY. NORTH CAROLINA Pag:e 17 RUKAYfAYS Red lights and heavy traf fic separated Harvey Bis- sette's and ?/.R. Pars.on's cars near Philadelphia. As three of the girls were standing on the sidevmlks to flag Harvey down, a po liceman, heard their North Carolina accent and asked were they runaways. T/hen they said, "No," he then asked v/hat they were doing so far away from home and learned that they were on their way to the conven tion . RECOGNIZING N. C. ACCENT It seems that everywhere the group v/ent, as soon as they spoke, people knev/ they were from Noi*th Caro lina. "Does it show that bad?" querried one of the girls after a number of such experiences. "RUGGED" WALKING Tripping merrily down the steps of the Columbia lib rary after learning of the Bugle's success, Mrs. Las siter knocked her shoe heel completely off. Re placing it the best she could, she Y/alked on dov/n the street. Seeing csome carpenters working on one of the Columbia buildings, she halted the \vork, ask ing the men to do her a bit of service - nail her he61 on. BLISTERS A frantic search for fruit was made by two of the girls after slipping out of the hotel at bed time in V.'iishington, D. C. The results were '-blistors on the back of their heels and Mrs. Farmer's catching them before they could get their hats off. Did they learn the truth of the statement; "Be sure your sins will find you out"!J CAL;^aiEjD DOIjN After seeing a good show one night the girls on the sixth floor went to their rooms to retire. When they got off the elevator some one asked them about a girl being strangled in a- nother hotel (joke). Yi/hile • they were talking the ele vator stopped at their floor, and the elevator 3oy said, "Are you going jp or down?" "Going neith er way" one of the girls 'eplied, "We're going side ways". This i’sfuriated he elevator man and up 3ame the manager ..asking, "Don't you think it's a- Dout time to go to bed?" That ended that conversa- :ion.
