Vfhcr Madge was in the ninth grade, a basketball game was played betv/een the team and the substi tutes of that year. The whole school was allowed to attend. This wag the first time Ifcdge had ever witnessed a real basket ball game. From then on she began to practice and the next year made the team. Shp has played for three consecutive years. CONCLUDES CAREER As captain this year, I&dge led her team to tho semi-finals of the Nash- County basketball tourna ment. Since she •will gradu ate in I^y, this semi final game concluded her ball carecr. Before the tournament, an article appeared in the Nashville Graphic, stating that it would be worth anyone's time to watch Ifedge shoot those hook phots and declaring fur ther that for high school basketball she was equal to Carolina’s John (Hook) Dilicn in college ball, Scfxjicin-cx> GAMES, TO DATE In the first two games of this g/3ason Bailey’s ro- cc"d stands 50--50. The trophy was late in being presented because an accident happening to it in the storo required rei- pairs. In the cluss tournament for which they won the award, the winners downed the tenth grade 17-15 point.-;. Rex Perry and Millard Morgan, junior high scor ers, made d points each. Sixth Grade ferticipates In Milder Sports On dull, drab, rainy days, v;hile-the high school students are wishing it would stop raining so that they could practice base ball or some other outdoor sport, the sixth graders chase away the "blues" with indoor sports. Four checktr boards, tv/o Chi nese checker boards-, and ten jig sav; puzzles have been purchased for them. Their interest in the games have encouraged four To fourteen boys. Coach M. Vv'. lYeaver issued the new baseball suits. Coach Weaver states that the issuing of suits vjas based primarily on the boys’ ability to hit the ball and the experience had. Jackie Bragg, Bruce Perry, Clara Lou Stott, and Mar ion Gofi have made checker boards. Bruce Perry has also made a Chinese check er board. Some of the puzzles while furnishing recreation are at the same time teaching the states of the union and historical facts, the teacher has discovered.
