For the first time a "literary" d by tho members of the English classes and typed by the coimaercial department,is in this issue of the BUGLE. that the magazine will serve as an in- the students and hope that it will con- nd become a regular annual or semi-annual BUGLE. ULIhat Really Is Commencement? Commencement day I To many seniors it represents completion of high school, but in reality it is a real commencing, a commencing of life for the graduate^ From now on he will be expected to solve his ovm problems, to answer his own questions, to be his own judge, and to set his own standards. Commencement offers a challenge: V/hat will one make of his life? Good luck, seniors, and may your life be one of helpfulness and happiness. Are Clubs Profitable? Clubs are a vital part of the training of any stu- deht. Social clubs are purely for recreational purposes and to teach the art of play and fun. But art, dramatic, music,spor1^ and literary clubs develop responsibility and leader ship, create initiative,re veal hidden talents, and act as stimuli to crcate greater school interest. This is made possible by students' planning pro grams, directing meet ings, and assuming re sponsibility for the promo tion of club activities. Some students v^ant clubs, but it will take the coop eration of many interested students, the school, and parents to make them suc cessful. Shall we or shall v/e not have clubs? Jean B.Glcvor Sports hold the interest of about 50 per cent of the student body here in Bailey High. Journalism consumes the time and in terest of a few others. The interests of the re maining students is so varied that the membership of clubs would be at a minimum. In a club with only a few members inter est lags. There are few new ideas and little in spiration. Ere long the club dies "aborning." There is also the time problem. Sports and journalism consume the activity periods of some of the students and tv;o of the teachersv There are not enough other teachers to supervise various other clubs. Even if there were, many students otherwise engaged would be eliminat ed, ! Barbara Farma.cl.
