"To teach the use of films and other visual education aids in the classroom, a countywide visual education v;orkshop has been set up for Nash County teachers,” states M. YL Weaver, principal. Three films from the University of North Caro lina Film Library will be shovjn to the students soon. RUTH E/.TKON, freshman, has undergone an appen dicitis operation at the. Carolina General Hospital, Attendance for the first, two weeks of school was sufficient to entitle an added teachcr for the ele mentary school. Mrs. R.U. I'oore, of Ayden, has bean elected to fill the vacan cy and becomes one of the first grade teachers. Bugle Al ta ms Honor Rating ForSecoricl Time For the second year the Bailey BUGLE has been giv en All-Columbian rating by CSPA. This year "the parti cular portion of the pub lication which stands out above all others" is the headlines. During the school year ’45 and ’46 the BUGLE at tained the All-Columbian rating for creative liter ary work. NO SPECIAL AWJiD No award is given for this honor, since the association feels that special mention la • re* ward in itself”. The awards are made "by the Board of Judges as they vjork on the publica tion in their specific classification". Tertnis Court Offers ilecreationForMennbers As a source of healthful recreation, the Business Men’s Club of Bcdley have built a tennis court across the street from the Methodist Church. A men- borship fee of $10 en titles any member to use the court. Members of the tennis club, their guests, and students whose parents are members are allowed to use the court except when the grounds are too wet for playing. W, R. Parsons,prominent citizen of the Bailey com munity, has directed the construction of the court. Load s Forward facing seats, a heater, and a windshield defroster are innovations on the 'Tiew school bus driven by Elton Ray Horton, tenth grade student. "V/e are supposed to get another nevj bus sometime this year, but I don’t know when," states M. W« Weaver, principal. "Two of the buses are in poor con dition but the others are fair. During the summer tiivo buses v/ere repainted". IHT. PLEASANT In previous years one school bus has been stop ping at MT.Pleasant to pro vide transportation for those students, but nov/ all buses come directly in to Bailey. This eliminates the necessity of making second loads at Bailey. YVeaver, principal. "This, and the fact that we have more stu dents and the same number of teachers, is causing the shortage of subjects available." As a result of the in creased number of periods demanded by the ninth grade, many juniors and seniors have found it im possible to take some of the subjects they prefer. In these cases students ncedihg units to graduate are taking subjects of tl'-sir second choice.
