making it necessary for
her to give up her Duke
studies and enter Hard-
barger’s Business College,
Raleigh, N. C» Upon com

course, she obtained a
position with the State
Revenue Department in the
Income and Privilege Li
cense Division. During the
several years of secre
tarial work at the Revenue
Department, she attended
evening classes at a local
college to receive an A.B.
degree,
Thurman Chamblee from
JAiddlesex, K. C., became
her husband in 1934. One
twelve-year-old son, Thur-
jnan Glover, is the only
child. At present the
family is living in Middle
sex where Bettie is an
active member of church,
community, and school af
fairs. She is president of
the P.T.A. of Middlesex
High School,

RUTH HASKINS STRICKLAND
“About all that I have
done since graduation is
to get married”, expresses
Ruth. Graduating in May,
she married E. 0, Strick
land in October. The
couple has lived in Bailey
since marriage. Her two
children are Kaye, 21
months, and Owen,an eighth
grader at BHS.
Pella J&e remained at
home with her parents
until her marriage to
V/illiam Allen Shear on on
January 1, 1935. For eight
months after marriage the
couple made their home in
Bishopville, S. C. Pella
Mae and her husband moved
from S. C, to her parents'
home near Bailey. After
living there for nearly
two years, they moved to
Rocky Mount and from there
to the country near Bailey
where their first child,
Sandra, age 9, was born.
Then the couple moved to
their present home. Rocky
Mount. Wilma, age 4, is a
second addition to the
family, to. Shearon works
KATIE.LEE HORNER LEONARD
In the fall of 1927 Katie
Lee enrolled at Ifeiry Eliza
beth Hospital Training
School for nurses in Ra
leigh, N. C. Later she did
general duty in Raleigh
and Wilson hospitals. Con
nected with the Burnette
Sanatarium, she lived in
Fresno, California, in
1943.
”Being quite different
from the other members of
the class, my mind was far
from matrimony until Uncle
Sam took my fiance' into
the Armed Forces”, asserts
Katie Lea.
During S/Sgt. E. Thomas
Leonard's first furlough
home on July 5, 1942, he
and Katie Lee were married.
During his four years of
service they lived in
Florida and California,
At present the couple is
farming about a mile from
Mt, Pleasant. The husband
is also connected with
Parson’s Motor Co., Bailey,
N. C.
EDNA 0»NEAL LILES
A few years after gradu
ation Edna married Edward
Liles. The following year
the couple moved to their
own farm where they are
living at present. Edna is
the mother of 4 children,
two boys and two girls.
The first child. Max Ed
ward, was born in 1932*
In 1943 Edna became a
project leader for the
Home Demonstration Club in
her community, Bullock’s.
as salesman for the W. T.
Rawleigh Company.
