NORTH CAROLINA The Past Comes Tq Dat^ CL A S S OF "26 AND 7 J&e Vick Batts Upon recovering from an operation performed soon after graduating, Mae went to work in V/ashington, D.C, Soon afterwards, her fa ther, a rural mail carrier, needed a substitute on his route and asked her to come home. She returned, assisted him, and also worked for the News And Observer. On December 6, T534,' Iv*ae married R. M. Batts and lived in Bailey for several years. Because of her father's illness and death in the vdnter of ’35 and '36, she carried the mail for him every day except one. After her father's death, she went to Newport i\iews, Va., and did defense work as a crane operator, Vi/hen the war was over, she went into dry cleaning work. "This work is very inter esting and I enjoy it",she states. Letters, requesting in formation regarding their activities since gradu ation, were written to each of the nine girls who graduated in 1926. Eva Taylor Morgan, Alice Bragg Miller, and :lfee Strickland Eddleman were not heard from, CLASS OF ’^7 PEGGY BRANNON, EDITH HIGH, MEG IE GLOVER Peggy Brannon, Edyth High, and I&rgie Glover, ■vvho would have been seniors this year, completed their required high school units at Pineland College, Salem- burg, N. C,, last summer. P®Sg.y is enrolled at VJoman's College, Greens-' boro, N.C., and Edyth is taking a beauty operator's course in Greenville, N.C« lk^rgie applied for enroll ment at E.C.T.C. but was not able to get the de sired course. She remains', at home. KEITH GLOVER Keith Glover, ’47, who enrolled at Duke Univer sity in September, scored 98^ on the entrance place- GUDYS PHILLIPS Gladys Phillips, '47,was married to Norbie Dew in Lucama,North Carolina, on October 11, 1947.
