November 21^ 1947 BAILEY BUGLE BAILEY NORTH CAROLINA Principals Column BY M. W. WEAVER SPORTSMANSHIP and ATTENDANCE Page 9 Basketball season is here again. Already some prco- tice games have been plc.y- ed a»id the county schedule will begin on Friday, Dec ember 5. Last year our teams were supported as ■well as anyone could ask for, and we are hoping the same will be the case this year. Our teams are going to be fair. From all evidences of practice, the boys should be a little stronger than last year, but the girls may not be quite as good as last year. They can develop, however, and ba better th:*n last year. I um writing this article to urge good sportsmanship on the part of both play ers and spectators. This is ny fifth year in Bailey and we have yet to see an ugly scsne put on at one of our games. I am proud of the way our players and spectators have con ducted themselves for the most part. Each player and each spectator will be ex pected to conduct himself and herself like a true sport. All players in our county arc ruled by the same eli- Cleaning -Pr A! tering-Ta LET US SERVE YOJ es sing oring gibility requirements. They are d-.) pass three subjects; (2w not have reached the 20 birthday by Oct. l;(3.)bea regular attendant at school. By holding strictly to these eligibility requirements, the game can be much im proved. Above all other considerations, be a good sport. ATTEKDA1\,CE Again let me emphasize the importance of regular school attendance,Teachers are allotted :on the basis of the number of students present each day. For the first two months of this year attendance has been two short of the required number to get an addi tional teacher in the high school. Come to school every day, MARLYN LANCASTER, senior, popping her head in the door on study hall said: "Miss Johnson, I want Bob by Lee. ” BOBBY LEE:(very loud)"Yea"i (He left the room very red in the rL.ce, ) BAILEY DRY CLEANERS Bailey, NC LEWIS WATSON, PfcOP
