BAIL’3 BUGLS, N. C. OCTCB^, 1950 Page 10 Report Cards Change to Meet Changing Needs of Today Reporting to parents has long been one of the major problems of the schools. Attempts are made at in tervals to change the reporting system in such a way as to give information to the parents of the child’s standing and pro gress in school work. The report cards for the primary and grammar grades for the year are being changed to give to parent?^ not only ratings on subjects, but also ratings on attitudes and behavior in relation to learning and in relation to social adjustments• The old card did not agree in every respect with the changing philos ophy of the .elementary school. Especially is this true with the new idoav'? about promotions. It is essential that the card express the objectives of the school program and rate pupil progress in a manner which conforms to the policies of the schoo!^ and which conveys to the parent tho relationship of the child to the desired goal. It is the purposo of the nevr report cards to rate tho child in relation to his oim ability and not in competition with othor members of his class.
