Tichenor ex pressed her disappointment ' in the conduct of her stu dents during Glee Club practice and stated that if the boys didn't improve their behavior there rrould only be a Girls' Glee Club this year. Forty-eight instruments for the tcy orchestra^ ■which consists of the tvro third grades, have been ordered and are expected to come in the near future. The instrument money was matched dollar to dollar by the county and school. This year the P.T.A. agreed to allot up to sev- enty-five dollars for mu sic equipment. Highlighting the North Carolina Scholastic Press Institute held in Chapel Hill, October 6 and 7^ and attended by the journalism class and its advisors was a speech by Dr. Joseph M. Murphy, head of the Colum bia Sohclastic Press Asso ciation , In order to be a success- fu]. writer, Dr. Murphy pointed out, one must have 3 good grammar foundation. He further stated that until one could wite and write effectually he has no place on a school paper. Ti^hen vjriting, lir. Murpl:^^ went on to say, one ouvbt to say to himself, "Wili I or will I not be proud of this twenty-five years from noviT?" One criteria in judging a person, he said, is by the kind of writing he produces. ViJhile discussing the fi nancial end of writing, he pointed out that money was not the all-innortant item. He reminded his audience that money was the medium of exchange for everything except heaven, happiness, and health. Dr, Murphy fur ther stressed the impor tance of helping mankind. Comments from the entire staff indicated all were inroressed by Dr. Murpliy's speech, not for the jour- Aalistic information only, but for the general knowl edge helpful in any walk of life.
