With the goal to type
with more ease, 23 typing
I students tackle units on
speed and accuracy v/ith
"much enthusiasm," relates

First in this unit of
study vfas personal notes
and letters. The students
typed announcements, for
mal and informal, personal
notes (com^^osed at the
typevrt'iter), themes, and
poems•
Next, en^.'hasis v.'-as placed
on speed through the use
of various devices. Guided
Y.riting, half minute base
rates, one, two, three mD.n-
ute speed witings, and
calling the throw for sen
tences vrere used most ex
tensively.
Third, accuracy was
stressed* One of the most
popular and helpful devi
ces v/as seeing how long
one could type v/ithout an
error; when an error v/as
made the pupil s;topped
typing and waited until
all the students had
stopped. Other methods
used were error-aralysis
charts for analyzing and
recording errors and cor
rective drills for each
error made.
On a recent tlirec minute
test Kay Ferrell lead the
class ' by typing liii. CWrLI
v;ith only tvfo errors. Next,
in relation to their speed,
were Jackie Lamm, 1^2 words.
