Brock^ Anne BunnTie , For First Place '■In Essay Contest Clayton Brock and Anne Buiin tied for first place '/ and Barbara 'uVester v/as second in the medical essay contest. The school award of $10 v/as divided equally between Clayton and Anne. Judges were Dr. J. E. Newell, Dr. M. R. Freeman, and the Reverend H. ii. L. Edwards. After each turned in his decision, a tie resulted. In hopes of breaking the tie an add itional juQge, C. H. Walker, was consultod. Since his decision didn't break the tie, all three papers were sent to Nash ville for the county jud ging. The tvfo winning papers in the •'county will be sent to the Public Relations Comirattee in Raleigh for the state contest. This winner will receive a 5p6CO scholar- •ship to any accredited college or university of the winners choice. Second and third prizes will also be offered. The two best essays in the state will be forward ed to Chicago for the nat ional ju,aging* The winner in the nation will be given a tlOOG scholarship. There will be five add itional awards for the five finalists. A, the comroittees, and teachers believe that the Open House of March 8 vras a success from every angle. Special guests were Mrs. - T. R. Easterling, incoming State P.T.A, President; Mrs. J. B. A, Daughtridge, district P.T.A. director,- Mrs. Helen K. Taylor, Supervisor of county ele mentary schools; and C. H. Fries, Jr., assistant county superintendent. The meeting began with a playlette entitled, "Happi ness Begins in the Horae", presented in the auditor ium by members of Miss lidith Farmer's jiunior class and Mrs. Frances L. Teachers To DemonstfQfe Music Activities at RIA Vii'ith the aid of their stu dents, three teachers, having charge of the P.T.A. program in April, will demonstrate the different phases of public school music instruction. In this demonstration, Mrs. Mary T. Tichenor, Miss %-rtle Sessoms, and Mrs. Effie Moore will show the different phases by using two-part choral sing ing, the rhythm band, and folk games. The purpose of this demon stration is to show the parents exactly v;hat musi cal' knowledge their child ren are receiving. Medical Association of Nash-Edgecomb county offer ed i50 for the winning essay in Nash and Edgecorab county combined. Other BHS competitors besides the first and second place winners were Jane Morgan, Dixie Rae Glover, Gordon Bissette, Theron Sanders, Lucy B, Stone, Beverly Tapp, and Mary B. Stone. Rouse's freshmen girls. Following the business part of the meeting, the audience was invited to visit every classroom and department in school, where students ana teach ers were oemonstrating the different phases of work.
