BAILEY BUOLE. BAILEY. NORTH CAROLINA. OCTOBKR. 19‘^1 Principols Column Eage_i Jr. Wins Second In Contest Having completed a review of our reports sent in last Spring, the Dept, of Education has sent their reply to us during the last few days. The only criticism of the High Sc hool report was that there were two classes with en rollments too large. They were U, S, History and janior English. The Ele mentary report listed three needs: (1) Staff liners (they have been purchased) (2) Enough U, S, History . _ maps to complete • a series (3) Lighting (a county pro ject if done). Both Elementary School and High School >Tere continued Students Co-operate With Fellow Student Twenty-five or thirty school children assist fellow student, Carroll Jones, vdth cotton picking. The students are to he "praised" for picking the cotton so clean, Mr. Jones, Carroll's father, remarked. From five and a half acres there were 6800 pounds of seed cotton picked within two weeks^ Carroll paid four dollars a hundred. The students received on the accredited list. In so far as materials are concerned, the school is standard. It is, then, the duty of each stud^^nt , teacher, and patron to con tinue to iitprove the quali ty of the work in keeping with improved conditions* It is interesting to note the recommendations of the II. E. A. on pupil load when thinking about class size. The Research Di vision suggests classes of not more than 30 students with 25 being more desir able. It is our hope that pupil load can be reduced within the next two years. Dr, Ernest 0. Melby, writ ing in the October N. E. A. Journal, says our educat ional program is based on three foundations: (l) Edu cation is rooted in demo cratic philosophy. (2)Good education must be a grovr- ing, chancing, and djniamic process, (3) Good edu cation is spiritual in nature. Each of the above is a good foundation upon w]3iiili_ii2 b'uiXd.
