Special space, however, is always alloted for the new jobs, military training, furloughs, and other news. Spending the Thanksgiving holiday at home, Mildred Manning, Ruth Farmer, and Willard Finch visited the school, Talmadgc Poole, a member of last yearns sen ior class visited in tovm, L» G» Deans and Thiorman Lamm looked quite natural except a little heavier when they visited hero while on furlough. Travel ing from fort to fort, Bel ton Doans is now stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado, He visited the school this month too, POSITIONS A position of secretary for Dr, E, T, Hedrick in Raleigh was taken earlier this month by Ann Bunn, Em ployed as a waitress, Jes sie Mae Dow is working at Earl’s Grill in Raleigh, Gordon Bissette is in Greensboro connected with Sears Roebuck Company, Completing their basic airmen indoctrination course, Private James T, Wiggs and Private Dan Glov er are now at Lackland Air Force Base, the "Gateway to the Airforce", in Texas Mrs, Kcrmit Lewis, lunch room supervisor, is play ing "the good angel" for our military alumni. Com piling all the addresses she can gatljjor. she wants Santa TakesThGLead Jn School Plans Playing Santa, drawing names, and having Christ mas parties are in store for the high school folks this year. Last Wednesday night at the home of Mrs, C, A, BroTrm the senior class was entertained with a Christ mas party given by the grademothorsj Mrs, L» E, Vicke^ Mrs, C, A, Brown, and Mrs, Eugene Finch, Refreshments were served on tables decoratcd with Christmas motifs. Gifts were exchanged by the mem bers of the class; games and records were playedj and songs were sung by all, Mrs, L, T, Lassiter's jun iors and Mrs. Howard Farm er’s sophomores must be lieve "It is more blessed to give than to receive" because they are playing Santa to some boys and girls. Both teachers' rooms have been doing this for the past three years. Each room will be served by the grademothers before the Christmas holidays. Miss Idalia Oglesby's section of the tenth grade is having ^a Christmag HOnOR ROLL FAGE-2- Jrs. AtternptTo Solve ProblemOf Absences Trial by a five-man jury is given each person who is absent in the junior class, with a fine of ten cents if ho does not have a satisfactory excuse for r failure to attend school. Juniors take the absentee problem seriously. They« hope to improve the school attendance by this action. These upper-classmen are also staging a contest in x^hich each member of the class is cither a one or two. The losers must en tertain the winners at the close of the month. Members of the jury are Reba Bryant, Jennings Nix on, Bertha Bass, Shirley Creech, and the class spon sor, Mrs, Laurinc T, Lassi ter, party to start their Christmas spirits soaring* Mr, L, E, Pittman's and Miss Frances Wilson's freshmen are drawing names and giving presents to each other. Their grade mothers are serving them afterw'ards, "I'm going home and cat," said Misses Oglesby and ' Wilson xirhen asked what they were going to do on their holiday vacation, *■ Mr, and Mrs, Farmer are going to visit Mrs. Farm er’s parents, Mr, Pittman will be at home "eating turkey," while "Boss" and his fam ily go to Kinston to visit Mrs, Wells’ mother, Mrs, Lassiter and Miss Edith Farmer have no plans but to have a good timo.
