It's a tyoical night. As
I gather tiy books around
me and prepare to try to
study, I can hear my young
er brothers and sisters
playing together joyfully.
"Ah," I think, "now I'm
going to get some serious
studying done." Blissfully
unaware of what's about to
happen, I arrange my text
books, notes, paper, and
pencils and begin studying.
Suddenly I hear a noise,
and startled, I glance up
to find my brother, Alvin,
in the fourth grade, stand
ing in front of me, his
arras loaded down with
books.
"Doris," he begins sheep
ishly, "7Jill you help me
with ny lessons?" If I
don't help him he refuses
to go to schoolJ So, with
a sigh, I Push aside
own books and reach for'
his geography. After
we read the text over sev
eral times, we finally
find the answers we are
looking for.
Geography finished, we
tackle spelling, (This is
a good review for me, be
cause I*m an awful spell
er.) We spell words, make
sentences, and learn def
initions, and . then spell
the words several times a-
gain before spelling is
dismissed.
Next on the agenda is a-
rithmetic. This I love. I
have alv^ays been able to
work every phase of math
except problems. The per
son who v;rote Alvin's math
book seemed to thrive on
problems. VJhen we get a
problem half finished, Al
vin asks testily, "Don't
we have this problem fin
ished?"
Completing the math les
son, we take up English.
Of course it's nothing
like Mrs. J'armer gives us
seniors, but it's plenty
rugged for a fourth grader.
With the conclusion of
English, I dismiss Alvin's

now I am sleeny.
Around 10:30 I finally
stack my books and creep
off to bed to get a good
night's sleep i
