BAILEY 3UGLE. BAILEY^vTJORTH CAROLIMAj APRIL...19^Z Boiley Enters TifTer Corolino' Contest Bailey is in the race for $1,000 offered to towns with 1,000 or less popula tion. Carolina Power and Light Company is launching this campaign to build a "Finer Carolina". The purpose of this cam paign, according to the Cora^pany, is "to improve the economy of a community anu develop coiTimunity pride". The general chairman is I^ayor John D. Bissette. Composing the STEERING COMMITTEE is M. W. Weaver, Mrs. John Burgess, Gene Finch, and Clara Lou Stott. Faye Finch, Lucinda Stott, and LaRue Winstead make up the PUBLICITY COMMITTEE. The projects selected were STREETS AND SIDE WALKS, M* Hi Griffin> chairman; MUNICIPAL UTILI TIES, E. A. Howton, chair man; PUBLIC BUILDINGS, Lea- mon Tapp, chairman; EDUCA TIONAL INSTITUTIONS, M. W. Weaver, chairman;RELIGIOUS INSTITUTIONS, W. R. Parson, chairman; STORES AND SHOPS, Mrs. J.M. Burgess,chairman. Assisting each chairmsin are, for the Streets, A.B, Farmer, Clara Lou Stott, and J. W. Christian; for the Municipal Utilities, Tony Stott, Gene Finch, and Mrs. Robert Meacomes; for the Public Building, J. M. Burgess, Carl Walker, and Mrs. C. D. Phillips. For the Educational Insti tutions, Harold Finch, J. H. Wells, and Mrs. T, C. May; for the Religious In stitutions, the Reverend G. L. Edwards, Mrs. H, F. Bowen, and Mrs. G. J. May; for Stores and Shops, Lew is Watson, Mrs. Herman Whitley, and Ed Cozart. The chairman of each com mittee is asked to keep a record of everything the committee does. "Fortunately, this is one activity in which no par ticipants can lose. All towns can't win cash a- PAGK 20 LaRue Winstearl wards, but every tovni which enters the competi tion and keeps plugging toward its goals will be a finer town when this cam paign comes to an end on October 31, 1952," is the belief of the sponsoring company.
