BAILEY BUGLE. BAILEY. NOtTH CAROLINA. OCTOBER. 19$2 PAGE 3 Principji Reporting, "DON'T BLAIE THE KilRItOH IF THE FACE IS UGLY." One night last week a nevis conmentator living his dai]y re]jort, quoted the above proverb. The name of the author has slipped ny mind, but there seems to be a lot of hidden meaning in those few v/ords. First of all let us beware of passing the buck. Too often vve are prone to blame someone for what we have done or for what we have failed to do. Stand up to the mirror. If what you see is not pretty, realize whose image is being reflected and do something about . ito If the reflection shows a dirty face, the face needs the cleaning, not the mirror. Students, will each of you stand before an imaginary mirror for a few minutes and make notes of your mental picture? First, is it clean? Is it clean from outi/ard dirt, dirt that can be removed with soap and v/ater? That kind of dirt does not harm character. Fov;ever, it should be re moved as evidence that cleanliness dwells vathin„ Nav look below the surface and see vihat sho\vs through. Is your language clean or dirty? Do you have to be al- virays on guard to keep someone from hearing conversation of which you would be ashamed? Bridle j'-our tongue. Keep it under control. As 3^ou look further on the inside, what kind of image shows up for your thoughts? Are they such that they could be put into v/ords without offending anyone? Let your thoughts be such that they could be put into action and in so doing make you a noble person. Report cards for the first six weeks have gone out. In a sense of the word they have served as mirrors to show you vihat you have done or ^ have failed to do. The grade itself is not what counts. A good grade re flecting good work is much to be desired, but a good grado unfairly gained is worse than an average grade honestly achieved. IMien basketball season begins, all of us are ex pected to be good sports. We want all of our out-of school supporters to back the team. Students, both players and spectators, are asked to be good sports. Be good losers as well as good winners. Keep the subject clean in order that the image may be clear.
