BAILEY BU3LE, BAILEY, NCRTK CAROLINA, DECEISER, 19^2 PAGE 2 Lunchroom Doors fibout By Doris All the students, teach ers, workers, and myself are eagerly awaiting the fast approaching day when the doors to the new cafe teria will be flung open with the aroma from temp tingly prepared dishes floating forth to greet us as we enter th'S new cafe teria. Found here is one of the greatest improvements over the old building—the hand washing facilities just to the right as v!e enter the second lobby of the build ing, Now all'students may have an opportunity to "clean up" before eating, KITCHEN Entering the kitchen •v\’here all the food is pre pared, we are impressed by all the new timesaving de vices that have been in stalled. First of all there is the electric po tato peeler given by the graduating class of '52. This is indeed a timesaver, as it eliminates the old method of peeling by hand. The electric dishwasher is not only a timesaver but a laborsaver also. A stainless steel dish table is a companion piece of equipment for the dish washer. There is also a stainless steel pot sink, a porce lain vegetable sinl, and a cast iron slop sink. The work tables and cabinets have a lovely formica cov er. As the old phrase goes— "it vdll be a spotless white kitchen", for it has an* all vfhite ceiling and (S|:E LUIIGHROOM PAGE 19) To Be Flung Open Joyner Home Eg Dept. Each student will store her seizing supplies in th’e individual tote trays. Direct light ing installed in the whole department will be a great improvem^ent in all divi sions . CHAIRS New chairs to match the formica-top tables have been ordered. A two-in-one chalk board-storage cabinet is another new de vice, The black board when in use covers a small con venient storage cabinet; when raised, a cabinet becomes accessible. Just as one goes directly into the living room of the average home when' he enters the front door, so does one enter the living room-to-be of this depart ment. CLASS PROJECTS This unit will not be com pleted until later, as the home economic students will have as class proj ects the planning, furnishing, and decorating of this "room." An unusual feature here is a closed bulletin board. When needed, it can be opened, the two doors serving as regular bulle tin boards, the. The cafeteria's ceiling, m^de of cello-tex, has circular indirect lights and two large overhead fans used for heating. In this room all of the doors are in natural finish. The windows on the north side have three sections; on the south side there are five high mndov>r sections. A large stage is at the west end. BOILER ROOM The boiler room has a national steel boiler, which burns oil. It puts out 83 pounds of heat per hour. The boiler can hold 2200 square feet of steam, 3520 square feet of water, and has 129 square feet heating service. There will be 500 gallons of hot water per hour. There is a. 1000 gallon oil storage tanlc. shelves, as space for dis playing objects, V.Tien not in use it can be closed up, giving the appearance of a wall cabinet. Rounding out the idea of natural heme conditions, the architect included a bathroom opening out of the sewing-class room area. This bath is complete with stool, lavatory, tub, and shower. Walls are covered in ceramic tile to a height of approximately six feet. All in all, the depart ment has all that one could desire: convenience, modernism, attractiveness, airiness, and color.
