Next year’s girls’ team,
in particular, will be
feeling the loss of five
senior girls; the boy s'
team will be losing only
two senior members.
During their four high
school years, FANNIE LOU
MANNING, MARY ANN EWARDS,
JAN PERRY, CLARA LOU STOTT,
and ANN JOHNSON have made
varsity team. Among these
five only Fannie Lou has
gone all four years as for-
V7ard, This year she de
serves to be in the spot
light as the player averag
ing the most points per
game. She has played in 2^
games and has a total of
$35 points with U6 fouls,
or an average of 21 points
per game I
PRACTICE FOR PERFECTION
She has participated well
in practice by being
present each time. Very
seldom do we find many
girls or boys going to
every practice, but as far
as Fannie Lou is concerned,
we should say "practice
makes perfect." Maybe we
might limit this perfec
tion, but she rates among
the best Bailey forwards.
Without our defensive
team we would almost be
lost. Jan, Clara, and Marj*-
Ann have been a great help
to Bailey by leading our
team as the defensive
stars of the season, Jan
has played in 25 games and
has a total of 68 fouls.
Of these guards she has
the smallest number ' of^.
fouls, according to the
number of games in which
she has played, ;Mary Ann
and Clara Lou collected 73
and 81, respectively.
Good prospects for future
years are JOAN BRANNAN,
PAULA HORNER, JANICE ED
WARDS, BILLIE FAYE PERRY,
and all the others, not to
mention the list of guards.
Practice and a year or
two more will determine
vfhat these girls really
can do with a basketball.
UMAR FINCH
Out for all regular prac
tices, a cooperative
fellow, and an outstanding
player is LAMAR FINCH. He
comes to the spotlight
this year as our star
senior player for the boys*
basketball team.
Since Lamar has been
switched from guard to for
ward, for the last nine
games, he has led the scor
ing, He stacked up 88
fouls for the season.
JUNIOR BASS, Charles L.
Coon High School transfer,
has seen action in 19
games and has made 39
points,
JUNIORS
Our hats tip also to
three juniors - CARROLL
JONES, "CORNEY" BOYKIN,
and JAMES STOTT. They too
have contributed much to
the team this season.
Carroll led his team in
the highest number of
points and also in the
least number of fouls.
There are good prospects
in the freshmen class for
the next two or three
years to come. Good luck.
^ Bailey’s; Green- Hornets
came out among the four
top teams going into the
county semifinals when the
wins and losses were
counted. As a result both
teauns have played two
tournament games.
By defeating Nashville
last Friday night, Bailey
boys met Red Oak, Wednes
day night in the Rocky
Mount High School gym to
lose to a count of 73-62(
CARROLL JONES and hi^h
scorer of Red Oak each
racked up 22 points,
Bailey girls walked off
with a victory over Ben-
venue on Monday night only
to bow to Red Oak on Wed
nesday night, FANNIE LOU
topped the lead with 26
points.
