BAILEY BUGLE. BAILEY. NOR H CARQT.TNAr JANMRY, Page 8_ Whot Really Counts! W. H. Westall It has been called to my attention by fans and a feT7 of the ball players that the excess smoke in tho gym during a ballgame irritates the players’ noses, throats, and eyes and also has a tendency to affect the lighting, since the smoke goes toward the lights. A few have asked if there covild be a "No Smoking" sign put up. Should the idea grow and it meets the approval of Mr, Weaver and Mr, Westall, I believe it could be arranged. 6ir!s Make New Skirts Finally, tho cheerleadors have now skirts 1 Each girl purchased enough green cotton mate rial to make a full skirt and enough yellow for a lining. She likewise was responsi ble for making them or having them made. Cotton material was decid ed upon for these skirts because it is more econom ical when the cleaning bill is considered. The old skirts, made of woolen material, were foxind to be too heavy to hang level. From comments made, the cheerleaders believe every one likes their nevr skirts best. To people who know basket ball, the accuracy of the players in shooting is one of the most important parts of the game. Specta tors get the wrohg idea about the valiie of a play er by judging him on how many points he makes. The person v;ho makes more points than his team mates isn’t always the best play er. He might take 2^ or 30 shots and hit on 8, which would give him l6 pointsj but look at tho 23 times he gave the ball to the other team without getting a point. That isn't good basketball. This year we have tried to keep a record of the shots each player takes during each game and how many he hits. Hero are some of the percentage fig ures of accuracy of the teams for a few games play ed: GIRLS First Middlesex game—hl% We lost by one point. Second Middlesex game—39% We lost by five points. BOYS First Middlesex game—hS% We won by lU points. Second Middlesex game-27^ We won by 6 points. In the Rock Ridge games the girls had h2% and won by five points; the boys had S3% and won by 20 points. In the Nashville game the girls hit on 26% of their shots and got beat,. In the Coopers game the boys hit on 26% of their shots and lost the game. The games mentioned above are just examples of the part accuracy from the floor plays in the outome of a game. Now let's look at the im portance of foul shooting. Did you know that our girls have lost four games becausc they couldn't hit their foul shots? If wo had made our foul shots in those games, we would have a good record. The boys have also lost one or two because they couldn't make their foul shots. Accuracy from the floor and from the foul lir.o is very important if a team is going to have a success ful season, BAILEY'S COUNTY STANDING Boys tied for third place. Girls are in fifth place> I!
