BAILEY BUGLE. BAILEY. NORTH CAROLINA. FEBRUARY Page 3 . Principol Rbporting m.w. i«aver TownExceedsfblbGo^l Right attitudes are won derful possessions for all of us. They help to deter mine whether we are happy or unhappy, a good neigh bor or a poor one, a suc cessful student or one who just gets by, a desirable citizen or an undesirable one, We have attitudes in relation to our homes and our parents. Each of us owes a debt of gratitude to them, and our attitudes can help to repay that debt, HDl-iE yORK Attitudes toward home work pan help or hinder one in being a successful student. It ig difficult, if not impossiblp to do all the rpqui»ed work in high school whilr o» eiass. It is, therefore, import ant to be vri-lling to do as signed work in study hall and at home. Our attitudes toward our teachers play important roles in school living. These attitudes are the ones which will be considered in more detail this month, ’.ifHAT OTHERS SAY The followir.g statement, taken from "Getting the Most Out of High School" by Swans on and Gregory, s’jms up the thought that I would like to get across; "As a citizen and a human being, you are your teach er's equal. You have a right to all the respect and consideration which we all expect in our dealings with others. In the class room, however, the teach er's position of trained leadei'ship and authority must be recognized. Teach ing is a profession. This means that it is an occup ation requiring special preparation-usually col lege graduation. Your teachers are not servants, even though they spend their lives helping you, as doctors do. They are teachers because they chose to be. They could have chosen other occupa tions, many of which would probably yield them higher incomes. Bear these facts in mind when you approach the man or woman on the other side of the deskJ "Your teachers want to be your friends. By training and nature they are the most tolerant "bosses" you will ever have. They ex pect only the jonsider- ation and respect ^.ue any one who has spent so much time and effort in equip ping himself to assist others. By cooperating ful ly with your teachers, you will be helping them and helping yourself," School rtO.es are mads in the interest of all the students, A positive atti- txide toward these rules will ca'ose us to y&nt to obey them and thereby work for the good of everyone. Bailey topped its $350 polio goal this year by collecting #373, reports Mrs. Raymond Finch, chair man of the drive. Collections made at school totaled $105, and the basketball games net- ted ^lOi;.
