Play Director 'Proud' Of Festival Criticism
After presenting the
third act of their play,
"Aunt Samanthy Rules the
Roost", for critism at the
Eastern Carolina Drama
Festival, March 27, the
cast came away "very well
pleased" with the perform
ance and constructive
criticism given, reports
the members and their ad
viser, Miss Idalia Oglesby,
COMMENTS
In the evaluation and dis
cussion period following
the three plays given, Lee
Howard, ACC faculty member,
stated that the actors
seemed to be comfortable
on the stage and remarked
that "Aunt Samanthy Rules
the Roost" was a wise
choice for inexperienced
actors because of the
natural dialect and plot.
Mrs, Doris Holsworth,
chairman of the Festival,
stated that the perform
ance went beyond ordinary
comedy to almost satire.
She commented especially
on Aunt Samanthy’s "high
gray wig and long drawn
out black dress", which
she said made her almost
a caricature,
COMMENDATIONS
Mrs, Holsworth commended
the cast especially on
making themselves heard so
well in a strange auditori
um and setting.
Constructively criticiz
ing the performance, Mrs,
Holsworth pointed out that
the cast needed to stop
crossing in front of peo
ple who ,^re speaking and
to Dick • up their cues
faster.
As director of the play.
Miss Oglesby says that she
was very well pleased with
the performance of each
member of the cast. She
pointed out that "perhaps
the most remarkable thing
about the performance was
the quick recovery Mar
shall High made when the
front door frame and all—
toppled over on him. He
calmly set it up and pro-
ceeded with his lines,"
She stated further that
j'the experience of present
ing the play before more
experienced' directors and
actors was extremely bene
ficial to me, and I be
lieved to all who partic
ipated."
