FiveStudents Enter Conservation Contest Events In Brief
Keith Vick came out on
top in the local speaking
contest entitled "Life and
Soil Conservation", spon-■
sored by the Nash County
Soil Conservation Service.
She will represent the
school at the contest in
Nashville the last week in
April.
Five students from Bailey
participated in the con
test. They were Keith Vick,
winning first place;
Louise Wells, second place;
Mary Ella Glover, third
place. The other tvro were
Katherine Whitley and
Roland Stone.
These five made their pre
sentations in chapel a
■week ago, Mrs, Pfoward
Farmer and Willis Finch
served as judges.
In announcing the deci
sion, Finch pointed out
the difficulty faced in de
ciding between speaker 1
and speaker 2 for first
place.
All students in tie fresh
men and sophomore groups
were eligible for the con
test.
To create interest among
the high school students
in soil conservation prob
lems, the Soil Conserva
tion Service of Nash Coun«
ty offered prizes to the
host speakers*
The pirizes were contrib
uted by people in the lo
cality of the schools.
There were three local
prizes of |l5, $10, and
given to eaeh school, and
three additional prizes of
^25, ^ii20, and |l5 will be
given by the county to the
three top county contest
ants,
PLAY INSPIRES BOYS

efforts toward inspiring
some of the junior boys to
do some shop work. These
boys—Thomas McKeel, Ted
Morris, Bobby Dew, and
Louis Davis—made the
stage scenery for the
junior play, "Believe it
or not!"
Mr, Edwards was bragging
on his new clean floor in
the chemistry lab to shop
members one day and tell
ing them how dirty their
floor was. Result—last
week the boys got busy and
gave their floor a
thorough clean-up and wax
ing.
Raymond Eoykin, Honry
Brantley, Billy Glover
and Comey Boykin assisted
some tovm men in sand
ing the Club House floor.
