BAILEY EUGLE. BAILEY. HORTK CAROLIIIA. MY. 19';L The Extros Educote Too Appearing elsewhere in this issue is a suitimary of the school’s improveinents this year and the scholastic bene fits expected to result from these additions. Viewing the school’s gains from another angle, the Bu- jle would like to point out a few other phases of train ing, not derived from a book or class period, that have had their educational value too. Participation in chapel .programs, in glee club activi ties, in speaking contests, in staging plays develops poise and the ability to appear before the public. Participation in athletic activities gives training in sportsmanship and physical development. All the training gained from publishing the school pa per totals up to accepting responsibility, developing a sense of pride in doing a job v:ell, having an eye and an ear for nexjs, expressing clearly one's thoughts, and in- '■^erpreting news intelligently. Cooperatively, the students and faculty have accepted the responsibility of four banquets this year, adding to or^e's social training and ability to direct a public af fair. A few of the students have had the opportunity to broad en their knowledge of their country and its other stu dents and gain the experience of travel by attending the Press Convention in New York. The visit of the Turkish President and his official party to the school gave a lesson in the dignity and re spect one nation accords another and the realization that all peoples, regardless of nationality, are basical ly the same. Such activities, if not done in excess, will enrich the student's knowledge above and beyond the three R’s and fit him for life's responsibilities as a citizen. Editor, The Boiley As scribe and assistant scoutmaster of the Boy Scout troop 12 here in Bai ley please allow me to ex press appreciation, on be half of the troop, for the fine article lauding our reorganization and expan sion, which appeared in the April issue of the Bugle. However, after reading the article over twice, I see that you have acciden tally omitted the name of one of the ’’scoutingest" Bug I© scouts we have in ■ the troop—little Bill Boykin. Frankly, Bill hasn't men tioned the omission to me, but that boy seems to be mighty proud to be in the greatest organization for boys in the world, and I think he'd want all Bailey to know it. Bill is now a tenderfoot, going on to second class. Thank you. Sincerely yours, Wayne Lamm Page li. HdtS Off To- BY CAROLYN FINCH The juniors and Miss Oglesby, the sponsor, for the banquet.
