OCTOBIR. 19Sh Page 18 Moth Exhibit Captures 1st Prize At St. Fair "I'lathematics at Work," an educational exhibit for Nash County from Kiss Edith Farmer's Math depa^-’t- ment of the Bailey School, having won the first prize at the Rocky Mount fair, gave the coiinty the oppor tunity to carry the exhit- to the State Fair, There it again i' eceived first prize and $100. The money went to the Class Room Teachers Asso ciation of Nash County, sponsors of the state booth, EXHIBIT The exhibit was set up against a white background edged with a blue border decorated with geometric figures. In the back ground were two windows, one on each side, decorated with orig inal geometric designs made of colors of gelatin, spot light paper, repre senting stained glass church windows with appro priate picture designs in the center. A card table with a geo metric designed top was used in the center back of the exhibit, CENTFR SPOTLIGHT Centering the exhibit was a Christmas tree decorated with solid figures made of colored construction paper and decorated with colors of Christinas sparkle, a project of the General Math Class, Other figures used were cut from wood, illustrat ing geometry propositions and postulates. STOTT Clyde (Rabbit) and Gordon (Man) Stott really have to be a rabbit in speed and a algebra and geometry prob lems. To complete the exhibit an electric game board, "Formula Quia", used to study formulas in general math, algebra, and geome try and made by Edwin Finch, was placed in the front center. All fair spectators were invited to test their memory of formu las by playijig the game. COMPETITION The exhibit competed a- gainst all other non-voca- tional high school exhib its in North Carolina, They vere judged on basis of neaJiness, originality, contribution to class room teaching, student work, and attention received by the spectators. Miss Farmer wishes to thank all those that help ed to make this exhibit possible. man in power to cover their paper routes each day except Sunday. Rabbit and Man carry The Wilson Daily Times in Bai ley each evening. To de liver the paper, both boys have to ride approximately 2-3 miles everyday.Of their 81 subscribers Rabbit has 53 and Man 28, Rabbit and Man use their money to buy school sup plies and for spending money. The boys have been delivering the paper for about three years, A number of people have asked Rabbit why he folds the paper into squares. He does it so he can throw them easier and the wind won’t blow them away, The time he spends to folding the paper is well saved in making the delivprifgR.
