Hi Fans I
Well, the basketball sea
son has finally started.
The first game of the sea
son was played at Saratoga.
The girls won with a vic
tory rf 31 to 26. The boys
lost, U6 to $0, but they
did play a g^cd game.
In the girls game Billie
Faye Perry was the high
scrrer with 12 points. Nel-
da High and Paula Horner
guarded well.
In the boys game, Newton
Glover led with 2k points,
Jimmy Dew, freshman, play
ed, so says the coach "as
though he would develop in
to a good player with more
experience."
The second game of the
season was played here.
The teams made a much bet
ter showii^ than they did
at Saratoga, The reason
fcr this was nossibly the
fact that they were play
ing on their own court and
that it was the second
game. Bailey won both of
these games with a victory
of 6U to ^ for the girls
and“^ to 29 for the boys.
Rolling on to their third
Jones Mokes FroshTeom At State
■'Carroll J^nes, former Bai
ley basketball star and
freshmen at State College,
is now on the freshman
squad, there.
Jones, graduate of *51+,
played on the Bailey High
School basketball team fer
four years. He is six feet,
two inches in height with
a husky build. On the high
school team he played cen
ter and was co-captain *f
the team in hie senior
year.
The coach at State Col
lege has made this criti
cism of the player, "Jones
should learn to move a-
ro\ind faster,"
If you would like to know
who the toughest players
are, ask Newton Glover and
Billy Liles. In the second
game of the season with
Saratoga, ITewton broke his
arm and Billy broke his
hand.Neither knew anything
about it and kept on play^
ing.
